Is it connected to a particular region? Is it random town-by-town? Just looking for a nice quiet place to grab an acre or two and retire.

The most conservative part of Oklahoma is the northwestern quarter of it, including the panhandle. Does that mean residents there are less likely to indulge in meth and do crime? I'm not sure. Try asking that of the residents of the major cities there, such as Alva, Guymon, Enid and Woodward.

My wife is from Major County (Fairview area) and the crime and drugs are minimal there. Might have a lot to do with the preponderance of Mennonite churchgoers. Alva, same. As for the others, not sure.

So have you decided that some town, such as Fairview, in the northwestern quarter of Oklahoma is the best place to live to get away from people who love to indulge in meth and other drugs? I've been to Alva before. It seemed to be a nice town. Don't know how easy it is to find an acre or two to buy.

So did you ever find a nice place or are still looking?

Still searching. Particularly for a place that we can leave vacant for a while while we RV without worrying about any break-ins.

There is no such thing as a guarantee for no break-ins anywhere.

Not looking for a guarantee. Looking for a statistically smaller chance than other areas.

You will more than likely be able to find a neighbor who would be happy to look after your place while you are gone if you live in town.

That being said. As others have mentioned the Northwest part of the state is probably the most "wholesome" part of Oklahoma. There has always been a solid base of wheat and oil through there. However, young people are generally not staying there because there are no jobs to speak of besides those two sectors.

Alva is a really great town because it is boosted by the University there. Same with Weatherford. The scenery is lousy but the people are great.

A out of the box idea and long shot is Durant. It is a nice town of around 16k in a county of 45k near the Ok/Tx border in the southern part of the state.

It has a number of industries and a broad employment base from the huge Choctaw Casino that is closest Casino to Dallas tx and which has doubled in size in my 11 years in DFW.

Cardinal Glass makes glass in a 5 acre covered facility just west of Durant, it located in Durant about 20 years ago.

CMC recently built a micro steel mill SE of Durant, this plant melts 100 truck loads of scrap metal daily to produce rebar, pipes etc whipped to Dallas, etc.

Durant is the HQ of the Choctaw Indian tribe now and the casino brings outsiders in and opportunities for theft and other crimes against visitors. So the ratio of Crimes per population is high but the town is very safe. My mom has lived there for 90 years and never had an issue nor my sister's famly who lives there too.

Its warmer than most of Oklahoma slightly with its southern location. It is hilly around there and gets plenty of rain so its green but not too far from SE Oklahoma where the terrain is more rugged and isolated with good hiking and camping options. There is a state university in town so lots of things to do and entertainment options between the casino and the university.

Good luck with your search
