Another thing that is important if you live in Oklahoma.....get a storm cellar. Many, many people do not have cellars. Most of those folks are people that have moved here from somewhere else and don't realize that a cellar will save your life at some point if you stay here long enough.
If you don't drown in it first... Right Colleen?? (OkieWolf, Colleen bought a house with a storm cellar that fills with water everytime it rains, we tease her about it being her fancy "underground" swimmin' hole. )

DH has designated our center hall as our "safe spot", and if something shows up on radar, we can go only about 1 block down the road to the local elementary school.

Now you know why we tease her. Her shelter was built ENTIRELY wrong with the top and the door flat to the ground... the surrounding yard is actually a bit higher than the top of the shelter. The top slab has developed cracks in it so all of the water flows right in.

Until they get the old one filled in and the new one built, we get to enjoy the amusing thought of Colleen and her family emerging after a storm with all of their scuba gear... Can you just imagine the rescuer's faces?

The upside is, they don't have to worry about the usual *critters* moving into their storm cellar!
