Today's my 1 year anniverary.

I've been on the CA, forum off and on and it's hard to beleive how up tight we really were.
Happy Anniversary!

Every so often I hit the St Lousy, er.. St Louis forum, just to see what if anything has changed. Just gets worser and worser. Ditto for the Alaska forum, only that one makes me homesick for the past - from what my son and friends tell me, I wouldn't recognize it now, after just 8 years being gone. One of the things I like about this place is that it's a lot like AK was when I first got there, people are friendly and 'neighborly' isn't just a word in s spelling test.

I've been on the Alaska Forum, (Anchorage), People are very sensitve of certain thing, take everything too seriously, but they're sure proud of the diversity .

Same way in my home state of Mich,

It's not that they take things too seriously, more that AK isn't a forgiving place for newbie know-it-alls. And some of them have been on the old news group [alt.culture.Alask] for a lot of years, and people keep on asking the same questions over and over and over... I don't do the Anchorage forum, it's too urban, and I don't do urban well at all. If I had to actually live in a city, that would be it, but I'd have to choose every month whether I was going to pay my rent or my utilities or buy groceries, but it sure wouldn't be all 3.

You mentioned a blue sky mrs.moby. When we left Ca to check out Ok, it was the first thing I noticed upon leaving CA, even in the desert of NM and elsewhere. The sky was blue. I had missed blue skies and even clouds when living in San Diego Co.

Looking out the rear view windows a few months later as we crossed into AR on I040 I never wanted to see CA again. The photo you took was great Robyn. I have it only in my mind's eye.

I feel home here, and I never did in San Diego. But I did in Berkeley and in my home town of Paso Robles.

Taboo asked about Bugs: brown recluse spiders, ticks, chiggers, and mosquitoes. All but the chiggers are dangerous here. I have learned to live with them. The pioneers had it far worse. They had tons of poisonous snakes and centipedes.

I have not felt tension between the whites and the Indians here. Maybe there is, but I haven't felt any.

The people here are extra friendly. If you are in line at a store they will talk to you, not just the people in line, but even the clerks.

My sister who lives in San Jose, CA was telling me that she was on the freeway going 10 mph. I didn't understand it at first. How I had forgotten that you can't move on the freeways. I have never had to drive under 55 here, but I live in Tahlequah and only drive to Muskogee and back. Seldom go to the big cities since I hate traffic. And they are nothing like San Diego, much less LA and S.F. area.

Even in Tulsa you will seldom drive 10 mph on the freeway/expressway, maybe for about a 10 minute window during rush hour at the 169/BA interchange. But's that's poor road planning.

Actually its using freeways designed to hold 3 million in 1950's when in fact the population is more like 20 million.
