Default Prepaid Cell Phones in Ada?

Hi All,

Finally moving to Ada, getting out of the Colorado rat-race. Yay. Can anyone expound on prepaid cellphones available there that they can recommend? I just want to use one with no service plan as I dislike monthly bills of any sort.

thanx

I'm from Ada but I've never purchased a pre-paid cell phone there. But, I'm sure they are available at the local Wal-Mart or Radio Shack in Ada.

Or try calling these guys..

Ada, OK

I don't even know if they deal in these things for sure, but you can ask one of them when you get them on the phone, even if they don't.

My brother lives in Ada but he has ATT; they have good coverage in Oklahoma.

Thanks for the info, I'll follow up on it. OBTW - also my daughter(she's 11) has been asking to get a kitten/young cat from a shelter or animal-rescue outfit. Does anyone know of those in area of Ada? Thanx again y'all.

Whatever you do, avoid Verizon, whether it's a pre-pay or push-to-talk of any kind. No matter what they say, they don't do rural OK. Maybe they work in OKC and Tulsa, but certainly not where I am. Not only could I not reach anyone, I couldn't even reach them to complain. 95% of the calls I made were 'call failures' or 'no network' and of the few that did get through, they were to AT&T phones. After I switched, they had a fit because I hadn't called to let them try to fix it - well, I DID try, I just couldn't reach them - they were one of the 'no network' calls. Nor could I convince them I actually had a new address - they wanted me to fax them proof that I was in OK!

I'm sure there is. Ada, although small (18K or so) is a regional city, meaning there isn't much around for miles. There is a University there (East Central University), and a wide variety of shopping/dining for a town of 18K in the middle of the rolling hills of SE Oklahoma. If and when you arrive there, just check out the local animal shelter.

Here's a link to the city of ada's website. Oh, and be sure to visit Wintersmith Park, it's BEAUTIFUL!

There don't seem to be any specifically in Ada, but they are all around. Click the Google map that shows the locations.

Welcome to Pontotoc County. I'm in Stonewall about 10 miles SE of Ada in Pontotoc County. To answer your questions. Pre-Paid Cell phone I recommend Bates Electronics they are an authorized AT&T dealer. Of course I'm prejudiced my In-laws own the business and my wife works there, but they are good to deal with and have been in business for over 25 years. They started out doing CB radio's and car sterio installation. They still do custom car sterio installs as well as Direct TV and Dish Network, custom home intertainment systems, and Home and business security systems. Cell phones are probably their biggest business right now though.

To be fair though as far as AT&T goes there are two other dealers in town as well. Wal-Mart and Communication Services. There is also a US Cellular dealer in town.

As far as cats go how many do you want? People give them away all the time around here. The local Animal shelter is P.A.W.S 580-332-5233 and I'm sure they have a ton of cats for adoption. Or just ask around someone is always wanting to give away kittens.

If there is anything else you need to know feel free to ask. I'll try to answer the best I can.

pnuner, that's a fantastic first post; so helpful. I remember Bates Electronics being there in Ada as long as I can recall. Welcome to the forum!

Default Thanks

Thanks. I've lived in Pontotoc County all my life (almost 40 years). I lived in the City limits of Ada for about 8 years. Graduated from ECU. I'm a country boy though so I got out of the big city as quick as I could . Not that there is anything wrong with Ada, I just don't like being able to see my neighbors.

There is one thing many people do not realize about Ada though when they look at the population. The census says Ada has a population of 15,000. That's what I call nightime population. During business hours and it has probably double that maybe even more and if school is in session it's populatin is more like 40,000. Some larger businesses are beginning to realize that too. Home Depot came in a few years ago and put a small store in as basically a tax write off. Now it's one of their more profitable stores percentage wise. We also have Applebe's and Chilli's, they are in the process of building a Quiznos, and a Santa Fe Steak House. There is even a Starbucks if they keep it open. It's less than a year old so I would think they would. There is also a new shopping center going in although very slowly it seems. Traffic at certian times a day can be quite bad. Many people in the county and surrounding counties come to Ada to shop and work.

As I said I'd be glad to answer any questions about Ada/Pontotoc County I can.

You are exactly right about the day and night time population of Ada. It has more things than any other city with a population of 15K than any I know.
