I tried that, and while they would drop one off for me to fill, the closest they would come to where I wanted it delivered was OKC. Said there was no where else in OK, in spite of me telling them yes, there was. Just insisted NO, and that was that.

That's strange because we had contracted with PODS before Doug got his job here and had to leave early, so we decided to use a professional mover. The PODS people were prepared to deliver our POD to our driveway in Mustang. In fact if I remember correctly, I set the whole thing up at their website.

I talked to a live person, frequently a mistake. Would have been a lot cheaper than that big Uhaul, though I still would have gotten a small truck or trailer to bring a few of the more important things, along with the animals.

I've checked into that and a bunch of other options, but no longer need to worry. We have the loan of a big cab pickup and trailer. When there is no thousand dollars plus to pay, then too big doesn't matter.

Loooooonnnngggg month ahead!

It's great that you will be arriving just in time for school to start (Starts Aug 20th)!! That will give you a chance to get familiar with the town and the ways of all the kids (at lunch).

Looking forward to you getting here! I would love to hear your thoughts on the town!

I found some pics of downtown posted in this thread Pictures of Cushing

These might be of intrest to you (and others)

Susan

housing market crashed? Here in Oklahoma???

In this particular area, it is not surprising to find houses ranging from $40,000 to upwards of $400,000 that are liveable as is.
That is what the market is in that area. Healthy and strong.

I would be VERY careful of buying any house that is not move in ready, as there are alot of houses here that are full of mold.
This is why the smart buyer has an appraisal and an inspection done before they put an offer in. And appraiser and an inspector, unlike a realtor, does not work on commission and has no interest in a potential sale.

Going totally crazy with two weeks before I move. Small apartment and no place to put boxes....ahhhhhhhhhhhh

I love your pictures! I've got to take pics of the murals and send them to everybody when I get there. When I was there visiting I loved waking up to birds singing and my apartment seems so small now, especially with all the boxes.

Ok, new question... how good is Sprint reception in the area. It was awful when I was there but it was still awful where it should be the best and the phone died shortly after getting home so that is no indication.

I'm looking at internet options and an considering sprints wireless service.

I'm here. Lots of things to do with the house that we planned to do and a sea of boxes packed for weight marked misc.... lotsa fun there. But I am so excited and the only thing I miss about California are people. The people who helped me move were very impressed with the town. Now to unpack and put in a line of boxes to sort.

I haven't seen much since we were really busy but I feel comfortable and welcome. We discovered that portions in restraunts are a LOT bigger and that the food was excellent. At the restraunt the waitress recognized us as the people moving into the house on her street which was neat.

I haven't gotten out much yet unless its for shopping or food, but I'm really glad I found the town and can't wait to check out the rest of it.

After you check it out thoroughly, have lunch at the that Tuscan restaurant in the shopping center behind the Mexican restaurant on the east end of town.

If you want a steak, go to Freddies in Drumright, about 8 miles east of Cushing.
