Default Cushing?

So far this what I have found (can you add more to why I would want to move there?)

* Property taxes are lower, in comparison to many cities.
* Housing costs: Median rent in Cushing, at the time of the 2000 Census, was $281. Monthly homeowner costs, for people with mortgages, were $565.
Centrally located between OKC and Tulsa
* Nearby colleges/university: Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, and Langston University at Guthrie.
* For those who enjoy the peacefulness of a slower paced life.

Business owners and people whose jobs allow them to telecommute appreciate that Drumright is part of the Tulsa Metro "Wide Area Calling ", one of the largest Wide Area Calling areas in the nation. Measuring more than 4,200 square miles within the toll free calling area-- stretching from Henryetta to Ochelata, and from Snug Harbor to Jennings, OK (There is no charge when calling from the Drumright phone service area to anyone within these parameters.)

Cushing is on the west edge of the Drumright phone service area

Default more info on Cushing...

You can use this link to see the terrain for Cushing....in other words, how green it is compared to other areas of the state.

http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=...3&vendor=googl e&pkw=oklahoma_map

Looking at a map, all of these are pretty close-

Graham Hill 1325 Graham Rd., Stroud, OK 74709, (918) 968-3942
Greenfield Vineyards Chandler, OK
Nuyaka Creek Winery Bristow
Sparks Vineyard and Winery Sparks, OK
Stable Ridge Vineyards and Winery Stroud
Tidal School Vineyards Drumright, OK
The Wine Village - Stroud
Woodland Park Vineyards and Winery - Stillwater, Oklahoma

Still wondering about lavender farms in that area....the land seems right....the cost seems great for land....lavender is gorgeous and very profitable. Anyone know if there are any there?

I was looking and haven't seen one but found this http://www.angelfire.com/ok5/about-o...-Lavender.html

Hey you can go to google and click images then type in "lavender" there are pictures of pretty lavender fields to look at. Here it is if you want to just copy and paste this link http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...=Search+Images

Known as the Pipeline Crossroads of the world, Cushing is the site of the nation's largest crude oil trading hub. Cushing is the designated delivery point for New York Merchantile Exchange crude oil futures contracts.

Front Range Pipeline LLC (SemCrude Pipeline LLC is the majority owner of Front Range) is building a crude pipeline from CO to Cushing so there will most likely be some contractors used for construction and right of way procurement.

P.S. Little know fact about Cushing--Years ago Cushing was home to a minor league ball team.

Default Langston University

Langston University is located in Langston Oklahoma.

Langston is primarily a black community and the student population majority is black. They also have a Tulsa Campus.

Langston is located closer to Guthrie than Cushing but is within easy driving distance from Cushing.

I learned to drive trucks in nearby Drumright ("The Town of Oil Repute" ) back in '96. It was a very pleasant 30 days. The people are wonderful, the food in the cafes was definitely up to truck driver standards (being the gourmands we are.. ) If my wife could find a job as good as she has here in OH, we'd love to live there. Tulsa is a nice commute for a weekend getaway and there's a lot to do in OK if you're willing to get out and drive a bit.

Cushing was the setting in a James Garner movie I saw several years ago. I cannot remember the movie's title, but Garner played the part of a railroad employee named George. Anyone else remember?

I believe that would be "The Long Summer of George Adams", a tv movie from 1982.

I'm curious about the availability of doctors in the Cushing area. This is one of the places I'm looking into and do not have a car.

Also, some of the propertys are listed as "as is" with improvements like the roof needing replacement. The price is sooooo much lower than California I could buy over renting but would replacing a roof cost more than going for a property that was true "move in" quality?

I don't know about doctors in Cushing. Living in Oklahoma is not easy if you do not have a car, so you might want a larger city that will have at least some public transportation. Some smaller towns have senior citizen vans, though.

Unless I could do the roof myself, I wouldn't buy a property that needed a new roof. In other words, unless I was handy, I would buy a place already in move in quality.
