Cordell ???
Hello !! I was just thinking about growing up in Cordell, so I typed in Cordell to see what I would find. This is a neat forum....but not too much stuff about Cordell. Is there anybody on here who actually lives there? I was there from about 3rd grade to 6th or 7th grade. This was in the dark ages though (late 50's early 60's)...lol !
Hope to hear back from someone, Blanche

Hi Blanche,
I don't know anything about Cordell, but I wanted to welcome you to the forum. Hopefully someone here will have information for you. BTW I went to school in the 50s and 60s, but not in OK. Not really the dark ages!

Cordell probably hasn't changed much since you were there. They are remodeling the courthouse dome. Cordell's courthouse and town square is the best in Oklahoma. (There are few town square's in Oklahoma). The view of the courthouse is really neat when you are coming into town from the east or west on HWY 152,
Nice little community of about 3,000 these days.

The Cordell Dome is one of the earliest memories I have in my childhood. The mental image is always seeing the huge dome (in the middle of the street) late at night as we made our final journey into the country side towards Gotebo and points beyond.
All us kids knew we were getting close to grandma's house when we hit the dome. Of course, that was the last point of civilization, because from then on it was back hwys and dirt roads.
We had cousins who lived there, but I haven't done more than pass thru there as an adult. I do remember hearing about the tornado they had in 81.
Cordell Oklahoma tornado
The first tornado formed northwest of Cordell, Oklahoma at 4:17 pm (CDT). The tornado damaged a mobile home and several barns as it moved northeast over a six mile path. The tornado was photographed by a storm chaser team during a project conducted by the National Severe Storms Laboratory and Mississippi State University. Many storm chasers sometimes nicknamed the tornado the "Wizard of OZ" tornado because of its unusual shape.

The Dome
Holy moly. Check the gas prices in that shot. That looks like my kind of downtown.

You must have good eyes, because I can't make out the gas prices.

Not really RB. All I could tell was that they all appear to start with a "1". When I left Tulsa in '95 it was at 99 cents. Them was the days.
