There IS NO annual rattlesnake festival in the Tulsa area Shad, at least not that I know of and I also did a good search on the Internet.
The annual rattlesnake festival is held in the Southwestern part of Oklahoma.
I wish you'd quit trolling around on these boards and making untrue statements about the Tulsa area Shad. In another thread someone was asking about allergies in Tulsa and your retort was that Tulsa's climate is akin to Houston, Texas and has mosquitoes the size of butterflies.
If you want to come on these forums and promote OkC and say nice things about it (sometimes endlesssly), go ahead and do so, but stop your trolling or I'll report you to the moderators again.
If the only way you can seem to "lift up" the city of your choice (which is obviously OkC) is to put another one down (in almost every way), that's a pretty sad statement about you and your agenda.

Shad, since we've seen fit to kind of end this war of words, or at least respect each other enough, I'll be more than happy to retract the comment about reporting you to the moderator. As I've said, sometimes your posts drive me a little crazy but I don't think you're a troll. Take care..

Ya- thats a total joke. But they do have rattlesnake hunts here in Oklahoma somewhere- i actually would be inclined to see it. I here the meat is very tasty and the activities are fun. Although it would be hard for me to see a whole batch get smoked. I think they put them in a huge pit and cook. YIKES!- hopefully they have EMSA on call. lol

Hi Nocold...I have 4 outside cats and live in NW Fla. They have a fabulous sense of smell and seem to know to stay away from snakes. They have been really jumpy lately so I know they have come across the nasty things during their night prowlings recently. Most dogs know to give snakes their space except for my neighbors jack russel that tries to kill every living thing she comes across. She has been bit twice by a rattler and lived to kill again. I know of dogs down here that have been killed by snakes b/c the owners let the dogs prowl around in the woods. Hope this helps

This interesting. I just got a Jack Russell. The reason I got him is because I read that JR's were bread to tree animals but not to kill them. This is what seperates them from Rat terriers (their close relatives) who are bread to kill. I have a Rat terrier all ready and he has killed several squirrels and an opossum and several frogs. My jack has not killed anything yet. He just digs holes and tries to escape all the time.
So your neighbor must have a rat and not a jack.
As far as rattlesnake hunts in Oklahoma I know of ones in Okeene (NW OK) and two in Mangum and Apache (SW OK) however I am sure there are some rattlers in NE OK (probably timber rattlers, eastern diamondback and pygmy)

The best rattlesnake derby is in Mangum (far SW OK, about 20 miles north of Altus). This year it is from April 27-29. WELL worth going to -- it can actually help some people get over their fear of snakes!!

We don't have mosquitoes as big as butterflies; they are as big as robins. Sometimes you just can't tell the difference between them until they land on you. Then you know it is a skeeter since robins are not that brave.
By the way, when do the mosquitoes come out? I haven't seen a one.

Its nice to see that Oklahomans actually know something about snakes! Seriously! Most people are so misinformed that I just cant help but chuckle, then proceed to give them the facts. Props to OK citizens for actually knowing what theyre talking about!
As for the rattlesnake derbies, I hope these are different than the rattlesnake roundups that TX and NM hold. There they collect all the rattlers they can (by forcing them out of their dens with gasoline), treat them badly, maim them and cook them, not before stripping them of their fangs and rattles. Seriously, rattlensnake bites CAN be bad, but your chances of dying are super-duper low (given AV and monitored at a hospital). People think that rattlers are Satan-spawn and out to get humans. LOL Leave them alone, thats the best thing you can do. Besides, theyre out killing and eating all those "cute and furry" disease spreading/crop killing rodents. Just remember that theyre just as important to the ecosystem as anything else. Besides, what other dangerous animal out there is kind enough to give you a warning that its pissed off? ;-)

I think those skeeters as big as robins that you are talking about are the mosquitoe hawks. Although they will bite the crap out of ya they are good cause they eat skeeters.
