Something to consider in Oklahoma
Discounted Telephone Service, (Enhanced Lifeline Service) is available from all phone companies in Oklahoma to eligible people discount is up to over $20.00 per month.)
1.) One must live on former tribal land. (64 of Oklahoma's 77 counties include former tribal land. Here is what the IRS defines as boundries of former indian reservations. http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=99491,00.html (when it opens scroll down to see map)
2.) In addition to living on former tribal land you must be participating in one of these programs: http://www01.sbc.com/Products_Servic...-5-3-0,00.html
Lifeline support http://www.lifelinesupport.org/li/lo...felinesupport/
P.S. Monthly discount on basic service is over $8.00 and I don't think for that you must live on land that was once an Indian reservation.

(You have to copy and paste the url's as they don't hot link them on this site but that is ok.)
I'm thinking aloud so say I moved to Drumright (which is within the Tulsa wide area calling plan and also in Creek County, which is a former Indian reservation -- I might qualify to get $1 phone service and then because in the WACP one doesn't pay for LD calls I could call almost as far as Bartlesville, OK without having to pay? That is quite some area on that map that is free calling:
http://www.att.com/Large-Files/RIMS/Oklahoma/Maps/tulwacp.pdf (broken link)
Drumright also has a winery and Stroud, which is close by has 3....and it says on here that they have lots of antique shops and a theatre.
And it looks like it is in the greenest part of the state if you look at this map:
http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=...w=oklahoma_map
I saw the article in the Tulsa paper about the Angel Food--you can get something like $45- $78 worth of groceries for $25. It looks like Angel Food is available in Cushing, which looks to be about 10 miles away

So what are housing costs in Drumright like....and utilities??

Move to Poteau. Housing ranges from 50,000 to the sky is the limit. We have a winery, bowling alley, skating rink, and best of all a drive-in movie. We are about 30 miles from Ft Smith, Arkansas.

Poteau
I am considering moving to Poteau. Looking for a place for my horses, need to get away from the snow and mud. We've already had a few snowstorms with a nor easter on the way. Uggg! Just heard on the local news 15 to 20 inches tonight.
Are any doctor offices in the area? I will be looking for a medical assistant job. Love my job here and the people I work for are like family but the weather in Maine is driving me insane. Poteau,Wister,Heavener are the areas we are considering.
I heard the people in Oklahoma can't walk in the hayfields because of snakes. Is this true? The only thing good about long cold winters it kills all the bad things.
If anyone could give me any info on the health field job market I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Krisk

No to Mexico. Need pasture, some mtns and 4 seasons. This year the barn water froze two months early which means 7 mos of lugging water for 4 horses. Water does not usually thaw out until sometime in may. So I will take my chances with the snakes. Had a dream of rockin in my moms chair on a front porch and there was a snake coiled up next to me also enjoying the sunshine. I knew when I woke up I would be ok....
