Default State of the State: Oklahoma

Feb 5, 2007 Oklahoma's Governor Brad Henry reported:
  • Oklahoma has seen 100,000 new jobs created in less than four years.
  • Oklahoma's unemployment is low.
  • Oklahoma's economic and per capita income growth consistently ranks among the best in the nation.
  • Oklahoma's early childhood education programs are hailed as the finest in the country.
  • College enrollment is at record levels.
More opportunities lie ahead.

Gov. Henry's agenda, in part:
  • Develop a $15 million voluntary early childhood education program for 3 year olds.
  • Establish a permanent funding source for the Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program. (OHLAP)http://www.okhighered.org/ohlap/
  • Increase teacher pay funding
  • Dedicate new money to the underfunded state Teacher's Retirement System
  • Allow Oklahoman's to secure U.S made prescriptions drugs from other countries.
  • Make more children eligible for health care by loosening the Medicaid qualification standards at a cost of $8.6 millin.
  • Widen the eligibility for the Insure Oklahoma program, which provides insurance to employees in small businesses using tobacco tax revenue.
