Default oil towns?

My family and I are looking to relocate to Ok. We would like to buy a big house in the country on a couple of acres, but we need to be near the oilfields for work. My husband has worked in the Ca oilfields for 10+ years. Can you tell me the best areas for this kind of work? What are the general wages for oilfield maintenance or oilfield construction in the area?

Thank you for your help.

Cindy

I don't know that I will be of any help but what exactly would the job title be that he is looking for?

Maybe we could look for areas where there are jobs and you could then see if you are intrested in any of the towns in that area.

Or maybe we could look for oil companies by name and he could check them out the areas where they are working.

Default Best oil towns

All of western Oklahoma is going strong. Mostly gas wells.

The hottest areas are Elk City/Cheyenne.
Woodward as has been mentioned.
Clinton would be next.
They are drilling as far east as Chickasha and up toward Alva and Laverne.
Cordell is another place that might be worth a look.
Weatherford is a small college town that is good but has higher property values than the rest.

Western Oklahoma is pretty windy and parts of it are barren but it is not as bad as people make it out to be. There are some nice recreational spots out there such as Foss lake, Ft. Cobb, Little Sahara (sand dunes) and the antelope hills and black kettle national monument are pretty interesting.

I'll see what I can find out about the pay.

Talked to a couple of people who work out there and they said $20-25/hour minimum for somebody with 10 years experience. Maybe more depending on the job. That kind of pay in Oklahoma goes a lot further than most places tho.

These guys said they really need to know his specific type of job to give a more accurate figure.

Thank You so much. Its very nice of you to be asking around for us.

The last 5 years my husbamd has ran the pressure relief valve crew. I believe they test, replace and repair them. Here, these valves must be checked each year to make sure they are operating properly. Of course, he also has the mound of paperwork that comes with it. They also have gas plant shutdowns each year where all the valves must be checked.

He has worked in oilfield maintenance, built cellers and ICLs. He has also worked as a roustabout in new construction.

He has not worked for a drilling company or a production company, but of course has worked around and near them.

Thank you again.

Cindy

I'll check a little more on what I can find out. In the meantime, you might want to contact Chesapeake and Devon energy companies. They are the major players in Oklahoma right now and they might be able to tell you what is available and payscales and such.
