Does anyone like living there? What does it have going for it, say, over other midwestern states like Kansas or Missouri?

I was born and bred in Oklahoma and Love it! It has lots of awesome sights, lots of Tourist Attractions, a variety of Weather Ranges, We have 4 Seasons each year!
The people here are friendly and loving! We have lots to offer anyone with an open mind!

Were you ever able to live in another state in order to make a comparison? I mean to REALLY see the difference?
Just asking

I've lived in Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, New York, Texas, Colorado and Oklahoma. I love it here. All of our grown children who were living in other states visited us and 2 of them have moved here, another one planning to after first of year. There is more to do here than there is time. In every state I've lived people hated it and couldn't wait to get out, some loved it and never wanted leave, and some could care less. It's all about perspective.

I really think whether you like an area or not has to do with if you have family around. I think Oklahoma is a beautiful state and if my kids were here I would live here forever, but they aren't so when retirement comes we are heading out.

Not necessarily. I have one offspring in NYC, and the most I could afford there would be a closet. I'd die if I had to live there, but for her, it's okay for awhile. The other one is a commercial fisherman in the Gulf of AK and the Bering Sea. If I were still there, I'd be lucky if I saw him a couple times a year. I can't afford to live there, anyway. So I'm here in a place I like where I have space around me and room for my critters. There's always email and cell phones for contact, and I have friends and relatives all over the country, from CA, OR, CO, WA, AK, MO, and NC, besides my kids. On top of that, I have some really nice neighbors, which I definitely didn't have in WA while we were there. I've also lived in OR, MT, and grew up in MO, so I do have some experience of other places.

Well in my personal opinion, I think Oklahoma is great.
Sure it starts to get boring when your always there, but if you take time out of your normal schedule to take a trip somewhere, its not so bad.
and besides, Oklahoma has alot more cultural places to visit than Texas or to say California.

Oklahoma is indeed great, but I would not compare it to Texas in culture or history.
The Alamo trumps anything in OK by far. Really all OK has is Native American and Energy history and some dust bowl, depression history. Texas has so much more due to it's longer time as a state and being a country.
That being said I would still rather live in Oklahoma.

What does tolerant mean, anyway? That people who have beliefs about right and wrong should not express them and that moral relativism should reign? I am so tired of the word "tolerant". ..
Oklahoma is a great place with crazy weather and nice people. I can get along with anyone who is sensible and tactful and I'm a true Okie. But, no, most of us don't want to put up with obnoxious screaming from fringe groups.
StillwaterTownie, I take offense to one of your first posts on this thread that said that people who like Oklahoma are homebodies with little sense of adventure. That's just kind of a strange thing to say and I think it really depends on what your idea of adventure is.

MO has some of the finest cultural places to visit in the country, and I loved seeing them when I was growing up. Everything from the days of the fur trappers to the wagon trains starting west to some buildings that pre-date the Louisiana Purchase, and one of the finest botanical gardens in the country, to Jesse James' hide out. But it's not enough to make me want to live there, that's for sure!
