I just have one request .... PLEASE do your homework before buying real estate. Heck .... contact me and I'll give you an analysis for free. Some people pay outrageous prices for POS's and really do wacky things to the market.

I'm a third generation California native but love it here. And I came for the way of life. So not everyone has ties. I grew up in socal when there were still orange groves and space between towns and poeple didn't have to rush everywhere. For those of us who did and want to find it again the only alternative is to leave.
I did lots and lots of research too, and followed prices on homes for a couple of months. My house was a partically finished refurb, but we did very well indeed.
The only part of the house that is 1930 are the frame and foundation. Everything else new. House doubled in value once the basic work was done. So I have a beautiful traditional "wood" house as they are called in California which is essencially as new as a cookie cutter. And a great place to live too.
I'm working on my house being just right because its going to be the final address.

Ah yes, I remember the orange groves too. Playing hide and seek, then dusting off an orange to eat. Occasionally being run off by the landowner for playing in the groves, but we meant no harm. Now the groves have been replaced by beautiful, stucco master-planned communities. The houses are so close you can hear the neighbor flush the toilet. Anyway, good luck with the renovations and post some pics to showcase your work.

I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma and it is a decent city to live in. I grew up here my whole life and I feel ready to move to Dallas, Texas within the next two years to pursue my career as an automotive technician. Tulsa is a fast growing city and is a great place to settle down. It is beginning to feel like a big city but still has the quality of a mid-size city. We have a lot of out of state plates (especially Texas) and traffic is beginning to get crazy during rush hour. Other than that, it is a good city to live, work, and raise a family, make a decent living, and have fun i guess. A lot of people give Oklahoma a bad name but they might be think twice after a visit. I feel like I have outgrown Oklahoma and ready for a big city/state to challenge, such as Dallas, Texas but that is just me. It has been a long-time dream to relocate and live in Dallas, Texas. If you choose to live in Oklahoma, I think you will be pleased.

Good luck in your move to Dallas autotech. I've lived in the DFW area for nearly 20 years and it has been a good home for me. Although, I'm looking to get out for the exact same reason you are moving here...
It's TOO BIG!!!
I think you should also look into Fort Worth. It's a really great city; one of the best cities in the country IMO, even though I'm a country boy at heart.
Good luck in your move and future!

Thank you, Synopsis. I will definitely take Fort Worth into consideration. I too, also wish all the best for coming back to Oklahoma.

I live in Oklahoma...and you just described me. I fit in just fine here *shrugs* I'm in Norman, for what it's worth...I might not fit in in more rural parts of the state, but I have no desire to go there. Farm life does not agree with me. The same is true for Texas, however. It's hard to be openly gay and atheist and live rurally there, too.
Oklahoma does have plenty of negatives, but there are plenty of positives. I plan on leaving the state for a while after I get my master's, but I wouldn't be surprised if I end up retiring here.

Very well said, Synopsis. Fort Worth is a great city and reminds me a lot of OK City.

Aw man, it has been ages since I have been to OK City. I think I went a couple of times for a soccer tournament when I used to play and I remember going out to Bricktown and checking it out with my fellow teammates, and scoping out the chicks (lol, no I'm just playing.) But Oklahoma City is nice.

That right there is a major problem in Oklahoma, If you were not born and raised here you are an outsider and there is nothing that will change it and you will never be accepted. I know people that have moved here and are looking to get out because of people exactly like you StillwaterTownie...
I have also found that most "Okies" are some of the worst backstabbers I have ever seen.
Believe me I will move out of this state the first chance I get and never look back.
The one thing I can say positive about Oklahoma is the State Troopers among the best in the nation.
Now don't get me wrong there are really nice people in Oklahoma, That would stop and help if you are broke down or lost, But the small town people are wacked.

I am a non-Okie, a non- US citizen and a non-Christian. I live in a very small town (around 100 people). I travel all over the state to rural areas, large cities and every thing in between.
Except for those who take exception to my occassional sharp tongue (I don't suffer fools easily), I have NEVER had any problems with anybody. I happen to be a private person and am not big on socializing, but the people I interact with, strangers and people who know me, have always been welcoming.
