Oklahoma
I have lived here now 11 years. The people are nice, but the weather is so hot during the summer I can't wait to move. Heres the problem it is so easy to move to Oklahoma but the salary is so low that it is harder then hell to get out and everyone wants out. So unless you like that kind of weather hellish hot summers and ice in the winter, go some where else

You ain't lying, whip. OHP is pulling over somebody everyday throughout the state of Oklahoma and I am almost certain that the number one reason is speeding. It is good that they are around to keep us safe though. I like in Dallas that they rely on traffic signal cameras. Every now and then you will see the local PD in Dallas, but the majority of the traffic signals with camera's do the work (I am assuming).

Nah..........they just adore your wit...........that is it, for sure.........

Everyone wants out?? GUFFAWS and SNORTS from the corral you say!
Well then be sure and tell "everyone" don't let the door knob hit you where the good lord split you.
The heat IS terrible, but there is a new invention called an air conditioner. Same goes for the ice storms, which are what... 3 times a winter? And if your salary is so cheap you can't afford a tank of gas to get to the state line...you really are in the wrong business.
Get some job training, skills, or breast implants! Do whatver it takes to get a better paying job. That is half the reason for unhappiness.
There are plenty of reasons to cry about, but bottom line is, if'n you don't like it here,... thar's the gate!! Git on down the road. We'll hear you whining on another state thread in a few years about something else.
If you have been here 11 years and still haven't made it out of Oklahoma, you aren't really trying very hard are you. As for me, the minute I make up my mind to go, it takes 2 or 3 paychecks tops. Then I am gone. But I don't ever blame it on the weather.

Oklahoman's love Oklahoma due to the quality of live, I believe. I do not know for a fact but it does not seem like Oklahoman's are in a rush to get out of Oklahoma. It is actually quite the contrary. Everybody is trying to flee their home states for Oklahoma because of Oklahoma's quality of life.

We moved here from NJ at the end of February. Okay, we missed the ice storm, but did see the damage when we came in January to buy our house. So far, all the weather we've had here is better than NJ's weather. Summer was hot, but more comfortable than NJ. Winter was not as cold, and spring had all those wonderful storms. Great photo opps and fun running into the bathroom to climb into the bathtub (our storm cellar is under water).
I agree with Redbird. If you've been here 11 years and still can't get out, you need to take a hard look at how much you really want to leave. DH and I used to move from state to state with one paycheck in our pocket. (Back when we were young and foolish). The two of us would go job hunting (always to restaurants because you get paid right away -- tips -- and they feed you). One of us would sit in the car, and the other would go in. The following restaurant we would switch. We never went more than two days w/o finding a job.
One time we were travelling across country to visit family and got stuck in a snow storm in North Platte, NE. The cafe attached to the motel we were staying in was swamped, and their help couldn't get to work. I chased down the manager and offered to work until we could get out. Spent two days pouring coffee and serving eggs. We ate for free for the two days, and made enough to cover our motel bill.
Moral of this story: If you really want to leave, you can.

I regret the tone of my post. I don't know the circumstances of the person who has been here for 11 years, nor why they want to leave.
I just know for my own self, NOTHING stopped me from leaving a town or a job once I got it in my head to go. That is both a blessing and a curse. Most folks will not leave a high paying job. They have more sense than I do.
I have never been afraid to walk up to a cliff and step off the edge. Because most doors won't open until you close the one behind you.
I also know my parents and grandparents went through some tough times here in Okahoma, and the weather was the least of their gripes. Heck, in the old days they opened the windows when it got too hot and slept out doors on the porch -mosquitos and all.
Nowadays we are too pampered and too spoiled. We eat out too often and get too far in debt. Relocating is nothing but the same problems with a different geography.
If you really DO want out of Oklahoma, be smart about it and make it worth your while, otherwise you WILL be unhappy there too.

Wow, colleeng, your post fills me with so much hope and desire. I will work hard at work and school for two years (which really isn't that long) and make my dreams come true. When I get my paychecks, I put half in my account and the other half to gas and other payments that I might have. By 2010, I know that I will have more than enough money to put a down payment on an apartment in Dallas, and get started. There is not a day that goes by that I think about the drive in my car on U.S. highway 75 en route to Dallas. I will enjoy my last two years here in Oklahoma of this new millenium, make the very best of it, appreciate my parents love, support, and accompany until the big transition in my life. I will be 23 years of age. It will be a beautiful moment.

With the way the economy is going, I might have to take out of my savings to pay for things. Sometimes I get a little concerned that I might not have enough to move out of Oklahoma to Dallas but I am still hopeful. Although 2010 is almost here (I cannot believe 2009 is approaching) anything can happen. I am just going to keep my focus for two years, despite the circumstances, and I know that moving to Dallas will be a reality rather than a fantasy.
