Does anybody enjoy living in Oklahoma?
Hi I've never really been there but in California I knew a guy from there he said most people want to get out ASAP. Coming to TX I have only heard negative things about Oklahoma, people say it's very intolerant to gays and backwards and there's nothing to do for culture/dining/entertainment. Does anyone like living there? What does it have going for it, say, over other midwestern states like Kansas or Missouri?

Yes, it's a horrible place. Nobody wants to live there. Everyone is meth heads and they have no manners. Stay away; Austin is heaven on earth and there is nothing good outside of Texas or California.
You HAVE been forewarned!!!!

I grew up in MO, and have lived in Oregon, Washington, Montana, and Alaska, and now I'm settled in Oklahoma. Each place has it's good and not so good aspects, depending on what you are looking for and what you want from life. Some places are more overtly racist than others, some are less tolerant of non-mainstream religions, some aren't particularly welcoming to outsiders. But it also depends on which town or city you live in. If, by 'intolerant of gays' you mean there aren't any leather bars on every third street corner, you aren't going to find that anywhere outside of CA. No place I've been has been overly thrilled with transvestites walking down the sidewalks at all hours of the day, either. But they are still there, and no one ever hassled them for what they did in the privacy of their own homes. If, by 'backwards' you mean people actually know right from wrong and don't weasel about doing what's right instead of what's convenient, that's probably true. But that's the same everywhere else, too. Maybe you just don't know the right kind of people.
There's just as much to do for culture/dining/entertainment in OK as there is anywhere else, it just depends on your preferences. If you want white linen and ballet, you're going to have to go to a major city, no matter which state you're in. If you enjoy more down to earth things, there's a lot more available everywhere.
But that's just my opinion - I grew up in a major city, but prefer NASCAR, mud bogging, and tractor and mule pulls to the ballet any day of the week. I prefer space and clear skies around me, and if I ever had to live in a city again, I'd just shoot myself and get it over with. As for all those people making negative comments, let them. It helps keep OK from being overrun with people looking for a different kind of life than the one they have that doesn't make them happy, either.

I hate this place. California, Texas, New Mexico, and Florida are the best places. Stay away from Oklahoma, it's the worst.

A big problem that Oklahoma can't get over is when it's headlined in the news, it's usually over something real bad or over something ridiculous and embarrassing.
At least Oklahoma has undeniably become less conservative and up tight, since the 1990's largely by revolting in a number of ways against the demands set forth by the religious right agenda. So since then, no more attempts to get certain movies and magazines totally banned, while tattooing, lottery and casinos have been allowed. So I can't help but wonder if some people who knock Oklahoma real bad are behind the times when it comes to what's been happening in Oklahoma.
People who are happiest with living in Oklahoma are homebodies who don't have a great passion for adventure. California people are used to the potential for great adventure around them what with the ocean and large mountains near them. Since Oklahoma lacks this, I don't think a lot of Californians will want to move here.
And if Oklahoma is such a seriously bad place to live, then why doesn't the director of the Oklahoma ACLU, Joann Bell, give up and leave since she has frequently been disappointed with her results of working with the ACLU. In fact, it's even more surprising she didn't flee from Oklahoma back in the early 1980's when embroiled in a conflict in her childrens' school with some Baptists, she had her house burnt down. So when I think of what Joann Bell went through, yet stuck around, it's just kinda hard for me to be in sympathy with people who want to leave Oklahoma because conditions here are so bad and backward.

Maybe your problem is that you weren't born and raised in Oklahoma.

The only problem I have is you. Doesn't matter what I post on any topic, you always take the opposite side and try to denounce what I say. I could be joking or I could be truthful, doesn't matter because you can't decipher between the two. Proves my point, something someone said about opening up and being tolerant or something - look what we have here, a voice knocking someone down. In this case, you always knock me down no matter what topic, thread, or post. So, save it townie, no response needed.
