Question about propane
Is it safe to connect a small propane tank to a water heater? My gas has been turned off & I cannot afford to pay the bill. I can handle the cold house and being unable to use the stove, but the cold showers....bbbbbrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can use propane from a small bottle for a propane appliance. You cannot hook a propane bottle to a natural gas system where the gas has been turned off.

OK. Thank you! I guess that's a "DON'T DO IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO BLOW YOURSELF UP."

Some appliances are convertible. Water heaters are not.
If you have a tub, run a tub of cold water, add a large pot of boiling hot water to it, for a bath.
You might call some of the social agencies and private charities to see if you can get utility assistance. Catholic Charities, Salvation Army, Various mainstream and non-denominational churches have LOTS of assistance programs that may be of help. further, they network with each other so calling them will get you information on who actually does assist in matters like this.

Well, if I could boil water, I'd do that, but my stove is gas, too. Oh, wait! I CAN hook up a propane tank to my stove, can't I?
I HATE asking anyone for help. There are a lot of people out there who need it more than I do.

I don't mean to sound rude, but why in the world are you going without gas but you still have internet access? I would think the gas would be more important.

No you cannot hook up a propane gas tank to a natural gas stove. There are orifices that have to be changed out to make it work. If you know someone who camps, see if they have a camp stove that you can hook a propane canister to. I used 2 of these for 3 months before getting a new stove.

Mrs Moby:
I don't think your question is rude at all. I only have internet access at work. Cable, internet, & home phone were the first things to go when my (adult) daughter became ill. She doesn't have health insurance & disability keeps denying her.
Thank you all for your suggestions. It'll work out. Always does.
