I live in the Panhandle and it very rarely gets humid at all, pretty much just high plains. It can get over 100 for periods of time in the summer though...unbearable lol. It's a nice place to live if you can handle REAL country living, Wal Mart may be hours away in some parts of the panhandle and conveinences are few and far between, but we are a friendly bunch...clanish at times but friendly .

This is my favorite place in Oklahoma but a second choice might be over by Alva, by the Great Salt Plains Wildlife Refuge, it's beautiful out there...or maybe down in the mountains by Idabel in the southeast corner....the options are endless..

I like humidity so my first choice is where Brian lives. Grove or anywhere along Grand Lake.

The way Tulsa keep raising taxes, I'm beginning to think a different county may be better.

If we can ever sell this house in western Washingon, I'll happily have to make that decision. It will be somewhere in the OKC area, so we can have choices, choices, choices. After college, we'd lived only in the city area and we made a big mistake moving to an area of small towns, with long drives and ferry rides to a city of any size. We like multiple interesting restaurants, the Air Force presence, having dozens of choices - instead of just a few - when you need to buy something...clothes, housewares, remodeling supplies. We also like being able to drive to those places without the harrowing traffic of a town like Seattle.

I like where I am, but if given a choice, I would probably buy in the flint hills of NE Oklahoma. Somewhere between Salisaw and the Kansas border, east of Highway 69.

I live North of I-40 about 1 1/2 miles and East of 69 Hwy by about the same... 1 1/2 miles or so. Ummmmmm can you say Checotah??

It is a great place to be. We LOVE it here!!!!!!!

Panama. Most people haven't even heard of it! We moved from the foothills of the Rockies to this gorgeous 'green country' 3 years ago. We live in the middle of 50 acres with 2 year-round creeks, woods, pasture and a large pond. I hang out clothes and enjoy a spiritual moment with the hawks, bluebirds, robins, bunnies and of course my chickens. We listen to the coyotes at night and hear the armadillos digging up our yard. We have wild bunnies and cats, deer, raccoons, 'possums, squirrels and snakes. We all get along well together. It is pure bliss. We are 25 minutes from Fort Smith Arkansas and a couple of hours from Tulsa. 30 minutes to 1-40 and we would never live anywhere else.

Good post mustangsally. It's nice to feel mother nature instead of the noise and urban feel of humanity.

Our quiet and simple surroundings are much like mustangsally's digs. South central Oklahoma is too far from anywhere and too slow for most people, but it is just right for us.

I prefer the eastern 1/3 of the state. More trees, and to me, just prettier. More lakes. The further west you go the higher the altitude, the dryer, and less trees.

Your age, need of health facilities, job opportunities, what do you like to do in your off time, will determine what is best for you. I am retired and the eastern side suits me. When working OKC & Norman worked for us.
