After 36 years of driving in CA's high congested streets and freeways, where everyone drives 15-20mph over the speed limit(including resdential), my driving record has always been clean, that is, until I got to OK. I got my first ticket in Duncan,OK. for going 39 in a 25mph zone. This was late in the evening with no traffic on Main St, but in Duncan, Main st. has mostly closed up businesses. (LR knows what I mean)
I would have gotten a $300.00 fine, but I told the Judge that my record shows that I don't make a habit of breaking traffic laws and I ask for some leniency. He agreed and knock it down to $89.00.

Another thing I've noticed, at least here in Duncan, is 3 way stops. I found in some residential areas where there would usaully be 4 stop signs there were only 3. I don't know if just one sign is missing or if that's the way is, but I've seen this more than once.

If it is any consolation, I am terrified of any form of Oklahoma Police. I have said it before and I think that they are like roaches, there is too many of them. I always try my very best not to speed, to update my tag, make sure all of my lights work, signal before turning, etc. Not saying that I am the greatest driver because I am far from it. Oklahoma Police is the reason why I try to make sure every thing is in tip top shape with my car and that I am following all the rules the very best I can. I will probably cry if I get pulled over, lol, and I do not think the officer is going to want to see a young adult male cry.

Ah, it's no big deal but I appreciate the sympathy John. All in all Texas has treated me very, very well and for 20 years, this has been my home.

I'm sure that you'll enjoy yourself in Texas when you arrive.

Thanks, Mike. Aw man, Texas is all that I ever think about and it is not even 2009 yet. Ever since I left on Friday, August 22, 2008 from my summer vacation in Dallas, it did not feel right at all.

I am so happy to hear that Texas has been really good to you because it fills me with lots of hope, and I know that Oklahoma will do you the same as soon as you get your chance to move up here.

We went home to my my parents house in southwestern Oklahoma for Thanksgiving 6 years ago. On the way as we coming into Anadarko we were pulled over for speeding.

My car was side by side with a pickup, we were going the same speed. The difference was my car has tribal tags. I could have easily said, oh man, he only pulled me over because I have tribal tags, blah blah, blah, waa waa.

But no, the truth of the matter was I was speeding. That is the bottom line, if I weren't speeding I wouldn't even have to worry about it.

Your mental outlook is going to lay the framework for the rest of your life. Your going to find yourself in similar situations all the time. It's best you get a grip on it now while you are young, or your life is going to suck big time and you will be angry about this or that all the time.

Forget it! Life is too short to sweat the dumb stuff. You say you are not playing the victim, but you ARE. You think you are being singled out ~as a college student~ or ~because you drive a mustang~, next time it will be because you are ~fill in the blank~ or ~more of the same b.s.~,... that type of thinking doesn't go away.

Now be glad you have a frickin mustang while you are in college, because I walked or road my bike my first two years of college. Then I bought a BOAT *one of those huge 8 cyl. cars from the 70's for $400 my junior year.

Okay, rant over. Go study. And be happy.
Good advice. I was quite the rebel in my younger years and felt like I was "picked on" for several things. The attitude got the best of me several times and although I "escaped" that era unscathed (for the most part) there are a few scars.

The best attitude that you can have in life is to be positive; make lemonade out of lemons, so to speak.

You've got a good head on your shoulders Nameless. You're attending school, and you'll come away with a degree.

This ticket is a simple hitch in your giddyup. You'll be fine. Don't sweat the small stuff, even though it may not seem quite so small at the time.

Texas has changed a lot in the 20 years that I have been here, but much of it has been for the better.

The roads are SO much better and the rest of the infrastructure has improved so much.

The amenities that this area provides are awesome; something that I will have a hard time adjusting to (not) having.

Any type of food you want is available here. If you are into music, they have it all. Sports? All of the major sports are represented here in DFW.

The biggest drawback, ironically, is the population (6.5 million people - twice the population of Oklahoma in one metroplex), but that's the very reason why there is so much here!

Oh Mike, you are making me want to hop in my car tonight and move to Dallas tonight, lol.

Yes sir! Driving in north Dallas roads to me is an oasis. I love it so much. Driving in Oklahoma is blah, lol! And let me tell you Mike, the amount of Texas cars that I see on a daily basis in this state makes me wonder if I am in "extreme deep north Texas." It is truly insane and I cannot make this up.

It is going to get so real in Dallas, Texas in August of 2010! And the countdown continues...

The funny thing about those video camera tickets is that they DO NOT go on your driving record because it's a civil fine that doesn't exceed $100. I know your ticket wasn't the result of a camera, but I wanted to share my experience. It's the first time I've had a ticket in over a decade.

I could fight it and should win because the camera wasn't marked but I figure the judge would just slap me with the fine anyway; it's a city revenue thing.

Don't take it personal, the cop was probably told not to issue warnings because the city of Norman is needed a little extra "capital" this month.
You paid the ticket?? Those never hold up in court! Believe me I know, my daughter gets them all the time in Scottsdale. She talked to an attorney and he said to not pay it, the city cannot confirm it was you as the driver. She has since moved to Dallas and gets them there too, has never paid one yet!

There's a reason for the offset differences in population between OK. and TX.
It has to do with immigration, so I'll just leave it at that.
