Not quite. They were pretty upfront about it in Alaska and Washington state. Michigan may be different, though.

I stop at the logical ones in the neighborhoods. At the others, I slow down enough to see if there are cops around and then roll on through. A police officer told me that people wanted speed bumps installed in neighborhoods, stop signs are cheaper. He said if one was placed in front of his home, he would remove it because he didn't want to hear tires screeching all night.

I used to sit in my marked patrol car within sight of a 4-way stop sign. Everyone could see me. Wasn't hiding or anything. People would look at me and still run the stop sign. Had one guy wave at me while rolling through. Had another guy make it all the way through the intersection before he saw me. He slammed on his brakes and backed up. Then just looked at me for a full 20 seconds before taking off again. He got a ticket for running the stop sign and illegal backing.
Some people think it's not a big deal. I've worked 5 fatality accidents that were all caused by someone running a stop sign. They are there for a reason.

Exactly! Stop signs mean stop not roll. I'm a former LEO and I have had to work accidents because of people rolling a stop sign and did not see that there was someone coming down the road and BAM! paperwork for whip! Take the 3 seconds out of your day and stop and look both ways it may save a life.
If you get stopped it was you that got the attention of the officer for doing something that you should not be doing and the police are there to do a job and that is enforce the law. Don't break the law and you won't have anything to worry about.
Pay the ticket and stop at stop signs.

Here in ohio they can stop and ticket you for not wearing your seat belt. Infact in some cities up here in Ohio you can get a ticket for driving with your cell phone stuck in your face (I like that one ) or driving to close to another driver. As (Whip) said, It only takes 3 seconds out of your busy day to stop-look-and listen at stop signs. Your life is no more important than the next persons, or (A CHILDS LIFE). And it only takes a second to change all that forever just because you were in a big hurry, next time leave a little sooner.
