Oh, I guess we should tell the newbies that the Stillwater Drivers Ed program has a special tornadomobile they use to teach our young'ns to drive in tornado-like weather conditions. You never know when your tornado driving skills will be needed.

Hey, I lived in "tornado alley" for some time both in Joplin , OKC, and Yukon.
Hail?? BIG hail. My pickup had huge dents , like someone worked it over with a ball peen hammer.
Tornados, I saw a few, but I saw just as many in Florida. Tornadoes happen anywhere !
Usually when the sirens went off most everybody would come outside and see if we could spot the storm. Like a big block party. In OKC you could see storms approaching 30 miles away, plenty of time to move out of the way.
Now California has only 2 conditions, it's either the dry season and everything is on fire or it's the wet season and everything is mud and sliding down hill. Sooner or later all the mud slides will level out the place and it will simply be flooded most of the time.
(this is the standard media view)

Lol, oh goodness, Goodpasture, your posts never cease to amaze me. It is like you have become one with the tornadoes.

Just stay safe and things like tornadoes dont happen everyday although they are very common here. I live in Oklahoma City; And I can promise you that we are prepared. Tornado sierns will go off for a warning. So you will know where it is and where it is headed.

Other than that, I have the standard questions anyone would have before a move...Crime? Weather? (I have a little girl) so how are the schools? Good scenery or trees?
Thank for any answers! I can get kind of paranoid, so I am not sure I can handle the tornado thing....

Tornados in OK. aren't bad. This is part of "Tornado Alley" but we only have maybe 2 tornados aweek.
75% af the homes here have their own shelter.
You can drive on an open Highway here. If a tornado appears, you need to start driving directly into it so it doesn't create a magnetic field around your vehicle and start following you.
If it happens at night, make sure Todo's in the house and your wearing your ruby slippers.

Love it. You need to add a sail so it runs on wind/tornado power.

you locals or so funny
I realize that you’re all desensitized to it, but I they were legitimate questions. I have watched a lot of storm chasing shows lately and my mom liked in Stillwater so long ago, she doesn't remember well.
One of the things that I wonder is night the most dangerous? They would be harder to see and so the warning sirens may not come in time. Everyone just says oh, there are sirens...like that's an automatic guarantee. "I just do what the sirens tell me. What is the f*(& ringing in my ear?"
For someone who doesn't know, I didn't want to just assume. If someone asked me about earthquakes I would tell them... <3 feels like a twitch in your leg; 3-4 things visibly shake, light weight stuff might fall off shelves; 4-5 don't stand near anything too heavy; 5< things are going to break... With earthquakes you can never tell in two ways: there are no real warnings and what starts off feeling like a 3.4 can just be the beginning of something that is a 6 three seconds latter and there are always aftershocks. So no matter what it’s a good idea to take shelter because it could grow quickly.
Thanks to FutureArchitect and those who tried to actually give me a non smart ass answer.
