Duncan is a very good choice since it doesn't look so weather beatened and runned down like some Oklahoma towns do. The oil industry from the past did that town some good.

Vetteran is on a distinguished road
The weather was actually a good part of why I am moving there. Aside from the occasional ice storms, the winters are nearly snow free, but it still gets plenty of rain.
I truly enjoy a mid-sized town. Small towns spend too much time worrying about the rumor mill, and cities are just a big mess. I don't require much of anything that I can't order or get at wal-mart, and going into a city isn't worth anything.

I don't know, it seems that if someone is unhappy and they make a geographical move, they carry that personality trait along with them to their new digs. They will soon be complaining about this or that in their new surroundings. You can't run from unhappiness.

I don't let weather, roads, taxes, the people, or whatever around me "make" me unhappy. I lived in the panhandle of TX and loved it. Got along well with the people and never really cared about the roads. Same goes for KS.

I do miss having the movies and restaurants found in cities. But that is the trade off we accept for living in rural areas.

Maybe you traded it for a slower pace in life, because you new thats where the real fun is redbird .
Me personally, Im tired of the fast pace of the rat race, to much stimulation for my taste. I'd like to open a nice wood working shop in some nice little town "in Oklahoma" and teach kids about wood working just for fun and to keep them off the streets.

Wow, that's idiotic.... If that is the case then why did you leave the pan handle?
I moved down here for business and now that business is done. After a full career in the Army I have been in 14 different countries and god knows how many towns and cities. I have found a way to enjoy most. Every place has it's draw backs, you just have to decide if you are willing to live with them or trade them for some more tolerable.
I have always enjoyed Oklahoma, the weather, and the people. As for the roads, that's great that you have never cared about them. You no doubt drive a truck and probably trade it in often. I have a truck and drive it often. I also own two corvettes, all of my vehicles are paid for and mine! So I worry about them more.
I can't see how you can figure that anyone that is unhappy anywhere will be so no matter what. If you hate the snow, you should probably move further south, and vise versa. You more or less said that people are fickle for having preferences on where they live? IMHO that's just ignorant.
Having said all that, I'll say this. All to there own. If your happy great! Don't judge others though for taking steps to make themselves the same.

You kind of missed his point. I've lived in a lot of places in the US, and in every one of them, from St Louis to Seattle to rural Alaska and various places in between, there have been people who moved to them looking for a change of weather, geography, whatever, to 'fix' whatever was wrong [or whatever they felt was wrong] with their lives. If a person goes someplace new looking for external changes to make everthing all hunky dory, they just aren't going to find it. Anyone who doesn't like themself isn't going to like where they are, either. Any place one chooses to live involves trade-offs of some kind. I can't drive anymore, but I could get around nicely if I lived in a city, what with public transportation and taxis, but I prefer rural life, or at least a small laid-back town. That's what I found, a small town where I can have all the animals I want, a house I can afford, and stores within walking distance.

Well in that respect I agree. Thankfully my life has turned out rather well. I am very lucky to be alive let alone walking. I have a full military retirement, and a nice internet based business. These combined make for a very comfortable living. The only thing that seems to be lacking or uncomfortable is my current geographic location.
I like living in smaller areas, cities are an absolute mess, and I prefer to avoid the daily chaos. I have a real appreciation for living well within my means and therefore leaving myself the option of doing whatever I like. My current location does not allow for that, therefore moving would seem like a well suited resolution.
