Default Retire to Vian Ok area

Hi people,
My wife and I have been looking for a nice place to retire. Right now I live and work In upper New York state, Snow ,cold, ice, too much!! Old geezers need warm weather!!!!
Having lived In OKC and Yukon for a while, we know what to expect weather wise. Also lived in Joplin Mo. for 5-6 years. Worked in Grove at the former EP battery plant. Ended up in the cold north after they went bankrupt a while back.
I did find several really nice places on Realtor.com and it's a toss-up between olkahoma and arkansas.
Looked at Florida, too much tax, too much insurance costs.
Suggestions are welcome but really interested in Vian area , seems easy to get mostly anywhere from there and what money I have left after my 401k bottomed out will go a lot further there.
Tell us about the area please..

When we drove into Oklahoma from CA Vian was the first place where we stopped and I loved it. Very lush, but it is lush all the way from there to MO. Vian is a very, very small town though, but if you don't mind that then that is okay.

I know that they have a convient store, but I don't think that they have a big supermarket. Not sure what you are looking for. We chose Tahlequah because it was close to Muskogee, Ft. Smith, Fayetteville, and Tulsa.

I would choose Weatherford. It's one hour south of OKC on I-40. Very nice town, has enough going on to keep you interested but still a small town-around 10-12k. Does have a college as well, so there are enough restaurants and stores to go around. Just a really nice town and can get a good house for $120k-$150k.

uuuuhhhhhh....I-40 is an east west highway, with Weatherford 80 miles west of OKC.

Median value appears to be round $113,000 so in general, a $120,000 would put you at the higher end of values.

Not sure how you can compare the Vian area to Weatherford though. Weatherford is in the plains of western Oklahoma, Vian in the Cookson Hills area of eastern Oklahoma. Vian offers trout and cold water creeks.......Weatherford doesn't........Vian is less than an hour from Lakes Tenkiller, Eufala, Kerr, Ft Gibson....less than an hour from Muskogee, Ft Smith, Sallisaw, Tahlequah.....and is closer by 10 miles to Tulsa than Weatherford is to OKC........in fact, the more I think about it, Weatherford is nothing at all like Vian........

Well, I know the Weatherford area and if I was going to that section of Ok, I probably would pick Watonga area. It's somewhat hilly with some water here and there and lots of rattlesnakes!!
Weatherford is way too flat for me, although the wind farms in the area are neat!
The southeast corner is what's attracting us to the area. Hills ,lakes, proximity to Fort Smith and points north to Rodgers Arkansas.
I understand that my old house in OKC has come on the market. In any case, we are coming to look around again, This time with out the pressure of finding a place near to where I work.
