I love SE Oklahoma and would move there in a heartbeat if I didn't have to work for a living.

If your dad is retired or self-sufficient, it'll be fine. If he needs to find a job, he's sunk - there are jobs in those areas, but nothing white-collar or that pays very well.

I personally love Talihina/Honobia and that area!

Personal property tax is definitely something you don't want. We had it up here until the late 70s and they finally got rid of it. You pay a yearly tax on EVERYTHING from your TV to your stove, etc. Some states include vehicles.

I was reading on the SC forum one day and a poster mentioned how his personal property tax on his vehicle was 400 per year. It can be a very spendy tax if you have a boat or camper or more then one vehicle, etc.

My thoughts too. In Oklahoma there is no such thing as a "luxury" tax on personal items.

So does Colorado, but it doesn't stop lots of people from moving there.

I assume that Oklahoma has no choice but to keep its 3.2 beer, so the liquor stores can keep their control over sales of stronger beer. That reason probably explains it better than the Baptists and other religious people not wanting stronger beer available to be sold in grocery and convenience stores.

By the way, Oklahomans are denied the freedom to buy cars on Sunday with absolutely no resolve on the will of the people to abolish such a strange law. But I guess that law doesn't keep people from moving to Oklahoma.

I didn't know you couldn't buy a car on Sunday! I guess I've never tried.
I do not pay personal property taxes except on the ranch which is our tractor only.
I was told by my son-in-law in Stillwater that Stillwater was the only area (meaning the whole county I guess) that pays a personal property tax.

In Stillwater (Townie) you have nice liquor stores come to McAlester and the store looks and makes you feel like a drunken fool and sneeky. There is only one liquor store and it is located where everyone driving on the main street can see you walk in. It makes you feel horrible.

There is a personal property tax, My taxes were 680 for property and 300 for personal property.

What really sucks is when I bought my tractor my property taxes went up 300... I think that's BS since I paid sales tax on the tractor because I do not have cows...
