Looking for info on moving to Southeast Oklahoma
I would appreciate if someone could tell me of any websites that might be able to help me out. I would like to know about if there are any personal property taxes. I would also like to find out transfer of vehicles, taxes, and registration fees.

Hi, and welcome to the forum. Check out this web site for the Tax Commission:
Oklahoma Tax Commission Homepage
There's also a link for motor vehicles. What do you mean by "personal property tax?"

I just didn't know if Oklahoma had a "personal property tax" as we do around here. Some states have it and others do not. It's just another one of those things to check into. I am looking into all this for my dad and hoping to have better luck than he. Any information AT ALL would be appreciated. Thanks Colleeng47 for the reply that I got and I am looking into that site this morning.

If you could just give me an idea of what a personal property tax is, I may be able to help. We have sales tax, if that's what you mean. While there is no sales tax on motor vehicles, we do have an excise fee that you pay when you purchase a new or used vehicle, but not when you register your out of state vehicle because you moved here.
Does that help?

I'm curious, too. What is a 'personal property tax?' I did a lot of research into various states before I picked OK, and overall, OK has the best COL. Real estate taxes are relatively low, especially compared to some of the cities I looked at elsewhere. I started looking at SE OK as well, but ended up sort of in the east/central, though I guess it's still technically SE. I like having 4 seasons, with fairly short mild winters, and a long growing season, even if the summers do get hot. It's supposed to be humid here, too, but it doesn't feel like it to me, not after growing up in St Louis and then spending over 30 years on an island in the Gulf of Alaska.

With personal property tax, they do it annually. It's on cars, truck, boats, etc... They tax you on the stuff that you already paid taxes on to purchase. Kinda sucks if ya ask me. Just curious if it is like that there.

Whoo. That doesn't just 'kinda' suck, it sucks rotten eggs! Haven't heard of anything like that around here, anyway. Might be different if it was used for a business, but I think the biggest difference there would be in insurance. I do still have most of the tools and equipment my husband used when he was making stuff to sell, but after discussing it with the insurance agent, they didn't charge me any differently for it because I don't have it set up and am not using it myself.

I pay a personal tax only on my ranch because I have a tax free ranch card. Now, we here in this area do not pay a personal tax except for one city that my daughter lives in which is Stillwater. I was shock to see that they had a personal tax ie. stuff in your house. Her husband said they were the only city in OK that had one.
