Jobs in Oklahoma
My husband and I want to move back to Oklahoma badly! We have checked out jobs there but have not found anything that pays decent. Does anyone know of any jobs available? We love small towns but would like to be within 30-45 minutes of Tulsa or OKC.
Thanks in Advance!!

It depends on what you do. Use some of the Internet job boards and check out the Tulsa or OkC metro areas. I'll send you a link to one of the better job boards from which to search.
Jobs won't pay as high as they do in Texas, but the cost of living is lower.
Good luck!

What kind of work does your husband do? It's hard to make any suggestions without knowing that.

Why is it that you hear the stats always saying that incomes are above the national average in Oklahoma and improving, and the cost of living is lower, YET it seems like everyone who is looking at jobs in Oklahoma say that they cant find a decent paying job here? Seems odd.
Was on a different forum a while back when many Tulsa companies were crying out for more welders. Mentioned that on the forum to some people up east who were looking for welding jobs,,, and they said that the jobs in Oklahoma didnt pay anything. Again, its odd that the businesses can keep complaining that they cant find enough good welders,,, yet none of the welders want to move here because they dont pay enough? Course at this point, it may have been that those welders and manufacturing jobs up east were spoiled and getting/paying too much and are thus paying for it now while their economies collapse and arent competitive enough. Yet manufacturing has been up here.

Retail is kind of taking a hit just about nationwide right now. Does he work for a chain that will transfer him? Wages are lower here, but so is the cost of living. Dh and I took a 25% pay cut (combined) when we moved here from NJ, but our mortgage payment, utilities and car insurance are all lower.

I can also agree with what the others here have said about the cost of living making a big difference. The property tax alone if my house was in Oklahoma would be about $3,000 less. When you look at utilities, gas, food and everything else, a salary of even $8-$9 an hour is something you can live on.
In retail you will get far better results by going to the stores in person. Most of them really don't need to post on the internet. If you have enough saved to pay 6 months of expenses, I would recommend that you move there and do your search in person. I found a fairly good selection of apartments in the $500 per month range. Figure about $1500 per month as a basic living amount. If you set a goal of saving about $9,000 plus moving expenses then then your goal will be within sight.
