OMG Heather, that sounds like a fantastic idea! I have access at work to Oklahoma Almanacs, which lists all sorts of interesting places, museums, etc.. DM me your address and I'll send one to you.
I agree with Redbird, we will all be living our lives vicariously through you starting in 2010. You go, girl!

Don't worry I will still have to be a working stiff. This is a weekend adventure type of thing and since I am a communications major there's always the hope of getting published of course. Thanks to everyone for the great ideas! I have been wanting to go to the rattlesnake thing, too. Redbird, what's a '49?

Here are some thoughts
Tomcat BBQ in Grove, OK. (OK 59 sourth of the I-44 Afton exit and North of Grove).
First Catholic Church in Delaware County built before 1900 by Chief Splitlog for his wife (off N 10 outside of Grove )
Harbor Village antique museum - a re-created turn of the century town built on the shores of Grand Lake. (turn west on 13th Street in Grove and follow the signs) It is huge!
LenDonwood Gardens is unique in that it is the only public botanical garden in NE OK that features Japanses plants that normally thrive in the Pacifiic NW. ( It's on W. 13st too_.
Honor Park in Muskogee. (honors all veterans) and Five Tribes Museum (inside the main park entrance)
Talequah is the Cherokee Tribal headquarters. Beautiful drive along the Illinois Roiver
Meander through OK west of OKC to the Texas border.
There is a lot of history around OKC due to the Cherokee Strip Run in 1889.
I found a great pizza buffet in Sallisaw
McAlester has the dubious honor of having the prison with the meanest convicts in the US. at the Big Mac maximum facility there. It is a 23- hour lockdown after the warden was murdered. .
Durant is a very nice little okay OK town on the Texas border. Great buffet.
There is also a big waterfall south of OKC - Pauls Valley???. I always wanted to go, but never did.
If you are camping, Grove has an awesome full service state campgrounds at Bernice Honey Creek Park on Lake Road #1. Primitive camping too. so take pictures
.

Swink is pretty much one of those blink and you miss it places. It's mainly just a store on the side of the 2 lane highway that goes through there. The speed limit doesn't go down when you get there. There may be a school but not too sure. It's in between Valliant and Ft Towson.
In my area in the very southeast corner of Oklahoma there isn't a whole lot of funny landmarks, mom and pop diners, etc. We are known for Beavers Bend lake which is beautiful. It's located a few miles north of Broken Bow. If you go that way continue north up highway 259 and that will take you to Talimena Drive which is in the Ouachita Mountains and it's awesome and good for sight seeing and lots of pictures.
There's a place called Wheelock Missionary that used to be an all Choctaw girls school located close to the town of Millerton. (not far from Swink) I don't think they allow tours anymore but they have a gift shop and you can tour the grounds and the old graveyard there. It's commonly said around here to be haunted if you're interested in that sort of thing

When I first started looking at places to buy on the net, there was one in Swink that looked interesting. Nice big house, 10 acres fenced, barn, etc, so I called the agent to ask about it. I ended up talking to another person in the office who said it wouldn't work, the house was so eaten by termites that the listing agent was afraid to open the door for fear the whole house would collapse!

Uhm, Heather? My panties are getting all stretchy from holding them. Can I let go now?
Any pre-Around the World trip reports? We are awaiting even a pre-trip report from the best Chicken Fried Steak place....(toe tapping), onion burger? Crappy buffet? Student Union food at OU or OSU?

That doesn't help! It just enhances the image already running around in my head!
Could we go back a generation or so and 'get knickers in a twist' maybe?
