The only reason I believe in Bigfoot is because a lot of Indian tribes have always believed in a "bigfoot-like" creature, - long before any europeans came to this country.

I know the Indians around Gracemont have one in their area, but it is a smaller version, only about 6 foot or so. And I believe one was caught on tape by the CNA casino. After the uproar, they "destroyed" the tape. They want it left alone too.

I always pay attention to how my dogs react. They have specific barks or specific alarm barks.

Like Karibear said, when ~all~ the critters get riled, there may be something very close to the house, like a coyote or something.

Indians want it left alone. The chewbaca sound makes me believe it was a black bear. Bigfoot has a sound that will unnerve you. And they will throw rocks at you.

Did you go look for tracks? I would.
Errr, uhh, by myself?? No. With my luck, I'd find one. I'd never tell anyone around these parts, though if I did find one. If there IS a Bigfoot, I want him to live in peace. This was his home first.

Loved this post. I live in New England and do believe that there are things that just can't be explained..kind of supernatural. Where I live, there is a legend about a black dog. It goes like this. Near where I live there is a park, a very pretty park with acres of daffodils in the spring probably 600,000 if you were to count them. They encircle a nice lake, walking area, tennis courts, play area for kids, swimming pool and other stuff. Overlooking the park is a range of mountains with what we call the "castle" also up there. The tale has it that throughout these mountains and also in the park there is a black dog who roams. If you see this dog while you are alone, the curse has it that something will happen to you. If you see it while with one other person, you are suppose to die, two people you both die. Have I ever seen it? Nope. Do I believe this..nope, but it is fun to tell the story and watch people creep out over it.

I don't doubt that you didn't hear something strange. Could very well have been some drunkin "yahoo" for all you know running amuck in the neighborhood. Let's hope it isn't Chewbaka running loose.

Again, great post!

I pay attention to the dog barks also. My Choctaw granny taught us to pay attention to the animals. We have what we believe is a Bigfoot in Louisiana too. If Bigfoot is real, I want him to live in peace. I don't want a bunch of nuts trying to kill him and put him in a cage or his head on a wall. Let the Bigfoot live in peace. If he is real, he has obviously never hurt anyone. My dad swears he saw one in the mountains up by Yosemite back in the mid 1970's. I have no reason to doubt this. He believed AFTER he saw it. He also was in awe of it, and respected it. I'll do the same.

Thanks. I liked your tale of the black dog. Sounds creepy! As for the noise, not human. But, a bear... perhaps. I agree with you, there are some things we just can't explain.

Ask around, maybe one of the neighbors has heard the same sound.

Or if people giggle and snicker when you ask, you will know it was some clown having fun at your expense.

I like spooky stories, but the "bigfoot" has too many close encounters which make is seem almost but not quite real.

I think I like the idea, that it was probably a bear. I'm going with that. Even though my dad swore til' the day he died, he saw a Bigfoot. Don't know if Bigfoot exsists, but bears DO exsist! My neighbor across the road is full blood Cherokee. She said she has heard "something" in those woods too. She is of course ready to talk about a few things now that I heard the unusual sound. This should be interesting.

I hope you saw the special about southeast Oklahoma aired about a year ago. We discussed it a few threads back. http://www.city-data.com/forum/oklah...-oklahoma.html.

I love those stories on BFRO. You have got to check that site out.

I just know that I am glad that I don't live where you live, and I hope to never hear it around here.

I was in the jungle one year with my friend, down near the Guatamala border, and we were sleeping near a hut but were outside in hammocks, and in the middle of the night we heard a Wolf, Wolf, Growl, over and over again, so loud that I set up in the hammock and couldn't go back to sleep for a while. The people at the ruins there said it was a 100 lb monkey. Everything thinks it could be a howler monkey. But that was unnerving, and at least we were out of there the next day, but you have to live with this thing out there, unless it died or moved far away. I was also unnerved when I hear wild boars on our 11 k. hike out of there, and then knowing that a panther was following us due to its cries that were also following us. Things like that unnerve me. When living in CA I heard what sounded like a cat, and when a neighbor told us to come off the hill we looked up to see a mountain lion just lying on a rock watching us all. I think here all I have are skunks, rats, squirrels, armadillos, and woodchucks.
