My daughter is a nurse at the VA in Muskogee and would not trade her job for anything... I'm sure having the right supervisor makes all the difference as in any job. The hospital is an older one but has and is undergoing constant renovations and improvements.
Muskogee has a population of around 70,000 I think and has a lot to offer for the size town it is. There are two higher education extension centers (NSU - master's level and Connors - assoc. degrees) as well as a private Native American focused college, Bacone.
There are a lot of nice places to live in Muskogee in addition to Honor Heights. Honor Heights is one of the older, long-time established areas very close to the VA and it is very nice. There are more modern housing developments to the south and south east side of Muskogee as well as east side around the country club area.
If you have children I would highly recommend settling in the Hillsdale School district. My granddaughters go there and it is safe and much better in my opinion than the Muskogee proper school system. Unfortunately there have been numerous race related problems in the Muskogee schools, but that may be better now.
Best part of Muskogee is if you can't find what you need there or would like some top notch shopping and entertainment, Tulsa is only 35 to 45 minutes away by the turnpike.
