I agree with your statement that Oklahoma has its good side and bad side and we should not just post nicey-nice things about Oklahoma and sweep the rest under the rug. We should be able to discuss all facets of Oklahoma life.

The original post of this thread was that there are people who JUST WANT TO DUMP on Oklahoma constantly and continuously in thread after thread. When in reality it is obvious they are unhappy people.

You and your posts do not fit that bill. I hope you remain with us in the okie forum and continue to post.

If it were just the burger I would fly to OKC But I'm hooking up with friends to go out for the weekend. Plane tickets from NYC to Dallas are right around $200. I spend more than that for a few hours in the city.

I rather agree with Redbird. I haven't gotten all that many nasty DMs, but I tend to stay out of controversial topics.

However, I will say I was warned both before and after I moved here that not everyone was going to be nice, not to take the people on the forum as typical of all Okies. The thing is, no matter where you go, there are going to be people who are narrow minded and negative, abusive to other people and animals. I don't like it, but that's the way it is. I do what I can to change it, one person, one animal, at a time. I do try not to judge those who are abusive and negative, I don't know what made them that way - for all I know, they are doing the best they can or behaving in the only way they know. All I can do is what little I can to help.

And as difficult as it may be to believe at times, this forum - and all the others I've visited on CD - are infinitely better than the old free-for-all newsgroups. Some of those were so nasty and vituperative that some members actually filed lawsuits against others, and won. I do wonder if the senders of those 'anonymous' DMs realize that nothing on CD is anonymous - I've gotten plenty that weren't signed, but they all start with a "You have received a direct message from XXX" so they aren't at all anonymous, there's no way to hide.

Nothing is anonymous on CD. If you feel that they need to be reported, then do so. I know we've not been seeing eye to eye on many things, but, I'd talk to directly, not try to hide. Ask the Mods to look into it, they'll know what to do.

Mattie Jo, definitely report abusive DMs. They just aren't tolerated here, BUT the only way we can do anything about it is if they're forwarded to us. Even if they don't sign their names, it's still right on there who sent the DM to you.

Actually, the OK forum is quite calm compared to a lot of the state forums. Thankfully, my own is generally calm and enjoyable, too, but there have been times......

And the political and religion forums~the Mods on there work SO hard at trying to keep a balance. I couldn't do it because I'm just not sure how you can moderate people who are discussing heated topics like that.

I can't stay on those polictal or religions forums because they are so negative with christians, atheists, and mystical christians all going at it. and then on politics the democrats and republicans going at it. it is always one vs the other instead of each trying to see the viewpoints. Like you Jammie, I would not wish to moderate it because I would have to read every single post. Negativity breeds more of the same.

Yeah! Those human beings are starting to p me off! Actually, the negative threads have a way of attracting the out-of-stater trolls looking for a fight. Some people take their tirades on the road. It happens a lot.

Anytime someone starts a thread on the okie forum with the word LIBERAL or GAY on it, you can be darn sure a bunch of hoodads are going to smell poop and zero in for a bite or two.

I think I meant to say people have left rude REP comments, because those are anonymous. I just say ho hum whatever.

Yup, you should have reported it. The only way to prevent things like that from continuing is to report things.

CD has done away with the negative rep lately and I'm so glad. How awful to earn points and then have them taken away and a nasty comment left. Really bums ya out for the day, doesn't it?

Mattie, there are SO many other forums to visit on here that aren't controversial and those are the ones I like to hang out at when I have time. We can fight about politics on here all we want and it's not going to change a thing in the real world and only causes misery for us and others. Absolutely nothing wrong with stating our point of view, but once things get carried away, it's just not my thing anymore. Maybe it's because there isn't just ONE right party or ONE way of doing things and it's often so hard to see the other point of view. AND some points of view are just not worth trying to understand. I'd probably have been banned a long time ago if I hung out on the Political forum. LOL
