However, I will say I was warned both before and after I moved here that not everyone was going to be nice, not to take the people on the forum as typical of all Okies. The thing is, no matter where you go, there are going to be people who are narrow minded and negative, abusive to other people and animals. I don't like it, but that's the way it is. I do what I can to change it, one person, one animal, at a time. I do try not to judge those who are abusive and negative, I don't know what made them that way - for all I know, they are doing the best they can or behaving in the only way they know. All I can do is what little I can to help.
And as difficult as it may be to believe at times, this forum - and all the others I've visited on CD - are infinitely better than the old free-for-all newsgroups. Some of those were so nasty and vituperative that some members actually filed lawsuits against others, and won. I do wonder if the senders of those 'anonymous' DMs realize that nothing on CD is anonymous - I've gotten plenty that weren't signed, but they all start with a "You have received a direct message from XXX" so they aren't at all anonymous, there's no way to hide.

I tend to shy away from those forums (not applicable to any of those on c-d) where the moderator is so timid that nothing ever with an 'edge' gets past them. There are no arguments since anything that might turn into one gets zapped. And those who get great inattention for a week then the mods do a quick zap of anything which might be a problem or has.. and you log on and threads and messages are just poof. What I like about the moderation here is it isn't so oversensitive that people can have their say, and the assumption is that not everyone will play nice but generally overall there is respect. When you get down into the political forums especially, there is sniping, but people take note of who and after a while skip past their posts. But because of that extra bit of room real discussion, even heated, is possible.
In the California forum someone started a thread asking why you left. Of course lots of people replied and some took offense that the state was being slammed and if you don't like it post somewhere else. But most of the posts were simply answering the question. Every states got the good and the bad and it comes down to what your after.
And ah, do remember the free fire zones... I've looked in on usenet once in a while and its still there if you are feeling nostalgic. You'll find all kinds in forums and some will have the nerve to say here that they'd never say in rl. Including venting and letting out that mean streak. But the competition is pretty hard around forumland, and those who encounter the uber pc boards and the ones where the mods drop by and delete and the ones apparently without mods can move on easily and find a good comfortable match. I came here to find out information about moving and Oklahoma, did and am still here because its not free fire and not overcontrolled and thats very refreshing.

I remember usenet all too well. That's the main reason I enjoy CD so much. Here I don't have to worry about someone jumping into a thread and telling me half a dozen times in one day - in vivid detail - just how I should go about committing suicide, simply because I don't agree with them. And not even over something of earth-shattering importance, just a matter of how to house train a dog. Some people apparently had no lives away from their keyboard. Sad, really.

If you could live anywhere in the world you wanted, would it really be Oklahoma?
Because these days you can pretty much live anywhere in the world you want.
Life is short, but if Oklahoma offers everything you want, than you should stay there. Otherwise, you should get moving.

Absolutely... as long as it is OKC or Edmond.

Gee, you sound like you are implying that if you MUST choose Oklahoma, okay, but there are better places. Am I wrong? But I do agree, these days choosing an address comes with little inconvenience. However, anywhere in the world is a bit of an overstatement. You could choose to live in Tehran, but don't expect the welcome wagon to coming knocking on your door offering fresh baked cookies.
