Stillwater might be a good place for you to look. It is a college town, but GREAT community and good schools! We lived there for 3 years and loved every minute....still miss it. We are in Edmond now, good community and good schools, but housing is pretty pricy! You could find an older 3 bed for about $120,000 or so!

From what I understand, Stillwater is a great place. Not too big, not too small, and within a short commute to both OkC and Tulsa.

Although Guthrie was at the bottom of my list, that list wasn't in any particular order. Guthrie may indeed be one of the nicest cities in the whole state. Almost everyone that I've spoken with who has spent any amount of time in what was once the capital of Oklahoma simply adore the place. Unfortunately, I haven't been to Guthrie since I was a kid.

Thumbs up Newcastle

[quote=Yorkie_Mom;486615][color="Indigo"][b]Ok, Come on Okies

Brag you shall get. Welcome to Newcastle Oklahoma! Newcastle is located 20 minutes from downtown Oklahoma City. Just a hop and skip from the hustle and bustle of Oklahoma City but far enough away to enjoy the splendors of the country and small town living. We are the largest city in McClain County. Granted our population (6600) is less than what you are looking for but we are on the move. Most of all, we are perfect for your daughter. We have excellent schools that are driven to have our students succeed. Our school administration's goal is to maintain classroom population at a maixmum of 25 which allows more individualized attention to each student. We build strong and civic minded students that value community. We have will have something for her to participate in and she will make plenty of friends. Our kids are always welcoming! Our test scores are above average for the state, our crime rate is low and we have plenty of property to choose from. It you want new, we have it, if you want something older, we have it. Come call Newcastle HOME!

I dont think stillwater- close to tulsa and okc- but i lived there for two years going to OSU and got nothing accomplished but drinking beer around town(nothing else to do). Also the town is known to be very dirty. But within a few miles outside the city of stillwater - you can find beautiful hills and lakes/nastalgic old farm houses. the scenery is a akin to tulsa which is very pretty.

Guthrie is cool for tourism. many okc locals and others come to get a historic feel(largest historic district and # of buildings in america)-really is more of an escape from OKC because its apart of the Metro of OKC. But unless you want to open a bed and breakfast- i wouldnt do it.-also population is under 10,000.
VERY SMALL TOWN.

Really- i think Enid lots of trees/pretty-mansions-good sized population and small town feel- but has amenities of a big city.

Bartlesville- is equal or better than Enid/from what i hear- it is a small tulsa. One of its nationally known buildings is The Price Tower designed by Frank Loyd Wright. Good sized city/good schools.

Well I guess I have more to check into, it might just be me and my daughter, anyone have a problem with that??? My husband is having a hard time with leaving this cold boring state.
My daughter and I on the other hand are looking for a whole new fresh start. So with that being said, would any of these towns be better for someone single with a 12 year old, or do I look into all these towns??? Thanks, Yorkie

My neighbors are from Minnesota and love it down here. They hate the cold weather as well. As for everything else, they say Minnesota is a great place but the cold weather for much of the year is just a huge turn off. I wouldn't recommend breaking up a marriage for a move but if a person is so stubborn that they wouldn't consider their other half's opinions in such an important matter then that probably means there are other issues at hand. Have you tried to compromise and ask him to give it a try for say, two years? If he's not happy then you could always move back.
