Default Work at Fort Sill, live in Duncan??

I’m being stationed at Fort Sill soon and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to buy a house in Duncan. The prices are better and I’m looking for a place I can raise a family (what time I get to see them) I haven’t heard many good things about Lawton. Would the drive be too far? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi ArmyJ, Welcome to the forum! If you enjoy driving, I don't think you would have any problems living in Duncan and making the commute to Sill. (Quite a few people do)

My Husband did just that for over a year until he landed the job he wanted here in Duncan. It took him about 35 minutes to reach the gates of Sill and we are on the far eastern side of Duncan...if you find a place on the western edge your commute would be a bit shorter.

He says he STILL misses that relaxing drive every evening! Since you are on a highway all of the way there bad weather isn't TOO much of a consideration, and if there is significant ice on the roads they usually close the base to non-essential employees. My Hubby worked for a private contractor on base in the public works section (roads) so he HAD to be there even in inclement weather and he never had a problem making the trip.

If you have any questions about Duncan fire away! There are several of us who post here and live in Duncan.

Thanks, I didn't want to waste a trip there to look at houses just to find out it was too far from post.
