GP, that is so nice of you. It's posts like yours that make me realize how similar people are to my own area.

A bit of chatter going on about OK and I thought you may be interested. I didn't want to start a new thread here since it is political, but it's refreshing to read things like this.

The other side of the coin is, idiots don't know this but when an illegal leaves OK DOC and goes to INS (or ICE as it is known today). they can and often are released when they "fight" the process, except for those who already have an "Order to Deport" on their ICE Detainer. Even if they are deported, it takes, what, two weeks to be back in the States?
Next, if an illegal has an OK Driver's License, he can simply walk back across the border by simply showing their OK Driver's License. Most of our inmates have been deported before. Big deal.
And many of our illegals are doing time for Trafficking (which is day for day prison sentence, no good time). They are extremely poor people who are being paid $2K-$3K to drive a car stuffed with drugs to various points in the U.S. Meth, cocaine, and marijuana make their way across OK every single day due to I-40 and I-35.
So, what's the penalty if OK starts dumping all the illegals back into Mexico? Nothing. Get busted, go to prison, get sent to INS, get deported, repeat cycle.
And lastly, we don't really save 4 million because after having ICE pick up the illegals, we simply open up bed space in our prisons, which are soon taken because the county jails are brimming with inmates waiting to be sent to LARC to start their prison sentence. We are at 98% capacity and it's not going to get any better.
If you want to save OK some money, get rid of the AFCF sentence enhancers. We have people in OK serving 40 years for $40 worth of crack cocaine, 20 years for even the smallest trace amount of marijuana and 10 years for the zig zags when the "after formers" are used.
Try sealing the border and then it might be a good plan. Otherwise, they will be back. Not necessarily back in prison, but back in the U.S.

Exactly right
I was with the "MinuteMen" for 5 years in Ca. and have been called the Border several times to help build it.
The funny thing about it is,.......it's the fenced sections of the border that's being patroled, not the open sections

Does that mean it's used to enhance a sentence or all by itself? We used to roll our own cigarettes, and zig zags were the best papers! That could give me some serious nightmares, looking back at what might have happened, just for having papers for rolling tobacco!

No, zig zags are not Drug Paraphernalia unless you are caught with marijuana.
A sentence enhancer is when the sentence gets longer for having prior felony convictions:
first time possession of marijuana=misdemeanor
second time=misdemeanor
third time=felony, probably deferred or suspended sentence or drug court (or 1 to 4 years) depends on the county and judge
fifth time= 2-5 years prison
6th= 4 to 10 years, or 5-20, whatever.
So you see the sentence gets longer if your sentence is enhanced with "After Former Conviction of a Felony, (AFCF) on the same Possession of CDS charge. This is an example.
Basically that means if you have been in prison three times and you get caught with any amount of marijuana you could get sentenced up to 20 years. READ that ANY AMOUNT! Even if they have to scrape a pipe and get a trace amount!
We have a lot of crack heads who keep getting busted and they wind up doing 40 years for 6 rocks. It is stupid.
The same goes for other charges. I had a woman who kept shoplifting. She stole a fingernail/toenail clippers set worth $5.99 and was sentenced to 20 years. Bear in mind, she had been busted 20 times doing the same thing-stealing.
Still 20 years for a fingernail clipper is stupid.
