Keep in mind that if you let them install it 'free' it means a 2 year contract. If you buy the equipment, you can cancel and sell it whenever you want. I have it, but I've never been able to read the menu or the online guide, so I never knew what was on or when. I tried to cancel, and that's when I found out about the contract thing. So far, it's cheaper for me to continue to pay for the lowest package than to pay off the contract. They will send you a guide in the mail, but they charge extra for it, and the print is still too small for me to read. I don't even turn it on anymore. But I also think DirecTV is part of AT&T's package - if you have phone, internet, and TV through them there is a discount.

I can't get AT&T internet here. The only internet service I can get is Cox, which we are NOT happy with.

Who does land line phones there? When I switched to AT&T for my cell, and then got the internet, they did it over the phone line and I ended up with an AT&T land line, which I never use. In fact, I didn't even know I had it until I got a horrendous bill for overseas calls! That's when they told me about it (and I didn't have to pay for the calls, either). But there are other places around the country where the local cable service also does internet, probably one of the largest being Comcast. So if you can get an AT&T land line, you should be able to get their internet also. I haven't had any real problems with it - they just recommend unplugging the modem when there are t-storms in the area.

Nope, AT&T doesn't provide internet service here, believe me, I've tried. I have AT&T wireless and over the years I have NEVER had a problem that they didn't do their best to resolve. Their call center employees are polite and helpful. I wish I could get their internet service. Maybe someday.

There's Hughes Net. I know some people who have it - some love it, some don't. Or BlueSkies, I think. Check the Rural Living forum, there have been some discussions there in the past on internet hook ups. I called Hughes Net, but for some odd reason they couldn't or wouldn't give me a bottom line cost. All they'd say was "It depends," then list all kinds of separate charges, but they'd never come up with a total per month charge.
Oddly enough, my house was wired for Cox cable and phone, but they don't seem to be around here anymore. AT&T had no problem with switching me on - and DirecTv ran the cable from the dish through the same holes where the Cox cable came inside.
