Some of us can't run. Period. Ask me about hiking along the trail by the Grand Canyon. whooo 7k feet really gets to you but it didn't dim the Grand Canyon one bit.
I have to pay attention to my weight so my "drive" is mute, but I have met people who are thin and happy and people who are fat and happy. You *should* care about health, but that can become an obsession too. Why worry about if your doing all the right things to the point the stress is so great you just negated all of it?
Happiness is a personal thing which has to do with being in a good place (of mind, of location, of social contact etc) and in one that works for you. And each one of us has our own personal best life bubble.

Oh, he's young yet. In a few more decades, he'll figure out that life happens in spite of whatever plans he might have, and he'll either learn to deal with it or be miserable.
***sez me who hasn't been able to run since I tore up my knee dumping a dogsled thirty-odd years ago, but since I never aimed at running the Iditarod, it just slowed me down some, it didn't stop me***

Since I hit 45 (almost three years ago), I've been unable to run, which sucks big time. I am working on that though and within a few months, I hope to be running again.
The point you made kari is very well taken though. As you get older, things get harder. Our friend who dislikes Oklahoma so much will probably learn that, IF he is lucky.

Art De Vany: About
He is 73 years old and he is in better shape than almost everyone I know. It's fairly pathetic when a 73 year old man is in better shape than you. And whatever you want to say about his evolutionary fitness routine, he's living proof that it works- at least for him...and me.
Cut out all of the junk food from your diet, i.e. all fast food, soda, sugary foods, processed foods etc. I haven't had soda/candy/fast food/processed foods/any other **** food you can think of for months now. And I feel better than I ever have.
I mainly eat: Roast Beef, nuts, almonds, almond butter, turkey, hare, venison, deer meat, fruits, veggies, seafood, raw fish. Basically no man-made bull----.
I ONLY drink water with few exceptions. Yea, I know, I thought that sounded boring and dull too, but I feel so much better than I used to I don't even care for soda anymore. I can't even imagine how much life must suck being addicted to sugar/caffeine/nicotine/anything else I'm missing...
Oh, you're not addicted? Try going 2 weeks, just two weeks without eating anything you know is bad for you.
You can't expect to eat/drink junk and be uber-athletic or even athletic for that matter. That's like putting diesel fuel into your little compact car...think about it.

Good for him, but no fitness routine is going to replace damaged/missing cartilage. I'm not sure why you're picking on me specifically, but if it matters [and I doubt that it does], for another 12 years after I injured my knee I lived on a semi-remote homestead in Alaska with no problems. Try being self-sufficient for 14 years, feeding at least half a dozen dogs, a large flock of chickens, a hutch full of rabbits, a goat, and two children, and see how quickly you get into good physical condition. All those mouths wanted to eat regularly, and a good part of each year that meant carrying all that food over a mile through a forest, the rest of the time rowing it across a lake. Add constantly freezing water lines, which meant carrying drinking water or melting snow and straining it for the animals, and washing clothing by hand during those times. And I worked, which meant taking two kids around through that forest as well twice a day.
All my damaged knee meant was that I could no longer run after a dog team, and I never got to take part in the local ultra-marathon, a 43 mile run up and down along a gravel road following the coast. I may not be able to run, but I'm still stronger in the long haul than a lot of the men that I know.

No man, I'm not picking on anybody. Jeez, I never meant to open that can of worms. I was just responding to Okies on here in general- I'm sure you're in great shape.
Oh, I did write "you" in there. I was referring to everyone reading this post considering not eating junk food anymore. Please don't take it personally.

Okay TWC, you don't like Oklahoma; we get it. You also think everyone there live unhealthy lives.
My Father worked every day as a carpenter until he passed away at 74. The reason he died? He had to go into the hospital for a simple operation and was allergic to the anesthetic.
At 74 he could work circles around me, and he ate bacon, homemade bread, and fried eggs every morning for breakfast.
I'm glad that you're living your life as you see fit, but please don't judge other lifestyles based on your own prejudices.
Okies are not a bunch of dumb hicks that don't know how to live life "right" by your standards.
Don't judge us and we won't judge you.

Frankly, I don't give a rip if he judges us or not. When he grows up maybe it will matter. But right now, my judgment is what counts to me, and the sooner he vacates the state, the better off the state will be. We don't need any more self congratulatory sanctimonious people here. I should be sufficient for this part of the country.

You're the only self congratulatory sanctimonious person we need GP. There's no room for anyone else...
