Jammie, some of the accents are regional to the extreme. For instance, I can tell a person from Maysville right off the bat even though Purcell is only 15 minutes north of there. Reba is from one of those itty-bitty towns in southeast OK where the accent is quite strong. I heard a lady talking the other day and she sounded just like Reba. Turns out she was from Atoka.
A guy guessed I was from Seminole County once. I'm not, but I was born there and moved when I was about five. I still have family there so I think I probably talk like them somewhat.

i really does depend on what part of OK to, I grew up outside of tulsa a ways in little town called terlton, now granted, growen up there, i didnt think anyone talked "funny" but when we went to tulsa to visit family, some of our cousins talked worse then us, enough that we knew it, and when i moved to SDakota, omg....was i teased somethen awful!!! i was called a hillbilly, a hick, you name it!!!! and i was attending a school that was full of military kids from all over the world....yet i was the one who got picked on something terriable!!
i used to practice every night in front of mirror to sound like the SD locals, but the accent was always there, even over the years till this day(im now 37)
my husband and friends laugh their butts off if ive had a few drinks, omg....i guess the okie accent comes shining thru then.....lol
and now that im in TN where my family started out from few generations back...well, needless to say, accent came back all to easy....lmao!!!
granted thou, theres a differance, locals here know im not truly from here, but know its southern "somewhere".....lol
but....yes, Reba has a heavy accent, and yes there is a accent in OK, just depends where your at and the "strength" of it.
BTW....im proud of mine....and glad its comen back....even if my northern hubby pickes on me....or gets me to drinken to hear it even more and pick on me more....lmao
and to those that worry a okie wont understand you when you arrive, they may not...best way to tell is if they nod and smile alot....your hint that they dont get a word your sayen.....lol ive seen that over here, its to funny.
but sit back and enjoy being a okie now...the rest will follow, eventually "ya'll" will learn to talk like the rest of us....hehehehehe we are patient folk!!!!

I've seen talk of "y'all", what about the plural of y'all, which is "all y'all"? Admit it all y'all, you say it!

I've heard that before~that it depends on what region of OK you live in.
Actually, I was once asked if I'm from Wisconsin cause I have a "Wisconsin accent". Now trust me~they don't talk funny. They speak like I do.
Sweetlady, I'm sorry to hear that residents of my state picked on you. I can't dispute it cause kids are cruel and they're just as cruel here as any other place. Now I do like to think that many of the adults up here are friendly and I sincerely hope that's true. But kids~yea~~some aren't too nice at all.

I'm so blessed to hear that you didn't lose your accent and give into the pressure of changing the way you talk. If you're speaking Okie....well, you're speaking the Right Way and the Truth in my book.
When I lived on the West/East coast....people often thought I was from Alabama, LOL. I immediately corrected them and told them I was a proud Okie. I told them that my accent was in no way as thick as an Alabaman....but my grammar was probably worse!

I've been in the DFW metroplex so long, with so many northern, western, and eastern influences, I've lost 90 percent of my okie accent, which I hope to regain someday.
