Maybe because you live in OKC? I've heard it in Holdenville, and it wasn't me talking to myself, either.

Have faith Synop! You'll get it back someday; you need to get back to the Promised Land soon, LOL.

As a 4th generation Okie, I have to admit I've never heard the term "spendy" myself. I'm pretty familiar with Okie sayings/euphemisms since the more elderly folks in my family/extended family still use 'em. (Sometimes it gets a little much even for this bonified Okie, LOL.)

My guess is that the person/folks you were talking to were either transplants or originally came from a family of transplants.

When I meet some people and they ask me where I am from, I tell them Oklahoma. They tell me you don't sound like you're from Oklahoma. My wife however, who is Japanese, still says I have an accent though.. There is hope!

Tell themyou are from the literate part of Oklahoma. When they ask what part that is, just say the part north of the Red River

Nooo, Synopsis! Don't lose your accent!

I absolutely ADORE the Okie accent. It's kind of pitiful, actually. I don't care if someone's saying the meanest thing to me, if they're doing it with that accent I'd probably still be smiling. lol

I think BornToFly was saying it is kinda pitiful that she likes the Okie accent so much....as in infatuated with Okie culture. That's how I read it, but I could be wrong.

Now I'm flummoxed. I finally did some searching on the web, and everything I found says it's chiefly in the Pacific Northwest. I heard it first in Alaska, then in OK, but as long as I lived in the PNW, I never ever heard anyone other than myself use it. Maybe it was brought back here by workers from the North Slope's pipeline days. There were certainly plenty of Okies and Texans up there for the oil boom.
