It's mostly about our love of football, Colleen. I'm kidding but it's pretty true.

I see t-shirts and sweatshirts advertising Ok, too. Seriously, when we've been out of town we've seen many of them. I always have to go and chat with someone who has an Okie shirt on. We saw a few people wearing OK t-shirts when we were at the Sioux Empire Fair in Sx. Falls. I've never see the My-am-uh (sp?) one though. The one that comes to mind most are the shirts we see from OKC.
Anyway, they're generally not from down there~just people who vacationed down there and bought t-shirts.

Well, I have what's left of a huge collection of Alaska t-shirts and a few jackets - there was an equally large collection of caps, but the dogs pretty much ate them all. Seemed like every bar, restaurant, town, and a lot of boats had them specially made. One guy I knew ran a boat called the Echo Belle, but the crew all called it the Taco Belle, so he had a batch of T's and sweats made up for them with TACO BELLE on them, said if they could make fun of his boat, they could d***d well wear shirts that looked like they were a bunch of fast food jerks.

Okies don't really speak with an accent--it's more that non-Okies LISTEN with an accent.

We just had some Ranchers from Mustang,(wearing t-shirts w/OK on it.) drop off a trailer load of equipment for check out and repair. 2 lawn tractors, 2 tillers, 1 Walker ZTR,and some walk behind mowers. They were in a hurry for the ZTR so I checked it out and found it wouldn't start because of a bad safety switch.
Another gardner has a Cub Cadet ZTR with OK decals on it.

But what is interesting to me is my California slur and speed has not been hard for anyone here to understand, even if the natives seem to speak a lot slower. By the way I love the native accent. I really wouldn't mind picking up a little of it actually, but never see myself sllloooowwwiiiinnngggg down that much.

We're slow in our speech because we actually think before we open our mouths....

I have lived in several States too and even oversees for 7 years but since I've become an Oklahoman I have tried to pick up there ways. We bought a ranch in a very rural area and have made friends that have never been outside of Oklahoma. Ihave learned from them many things and sometimes I find myself talking like an Okie. I enjoy that, yes brought up in CA. my relatives think I am nuts but I prefer my lifestye to theirs any day of the week.
