Default Beggs Ok....

Well we finally got to Beggs/Mounds. I about freaked out when I found out I couldn't get DSL and had to get satallite..but I survived it. And I broke down and bought DirectTV for hubby. We have only had an antenna for so long we forgot what it is like to have more than 2,8, and 23.. for TV stations. Pretty cool actually. I guess we have learned to live without them so long that I don't really care anymore.

Being out of town so far has been pretty good. In Checotah we were right in the middle of town and we hated it with the "building codes" and all that... If I wanna let the grass grow in my front yard and bale it for hay, I can do that!!!!!! It is a refreshing idea. I doubt I will do it, but just the OPTION is soooooooooo cool. Can you tell I am hicking out????
And I am thinking about getting a goat and some chickens.

Glad you like your new digs!

Tall grass and weeds around the fences is normal for us. Our friend from town said he hates weeds and suggested Ortho weed killer.

I told him it won't do any good. I would have to buy a swimming pool's worth and the weeds would be right back anyway.

We don't have satellite or DSL. Some sort of new system which is like a radio signal. Cheaper than satellite and fast enough.

I checked into that RB but the dude said would be $300 for instillation. We actually had a guy mow yesterday and he asked if we wanted to pay extra for weed eating. I asked him to weed eat around the FRONT YARD fence and forget the rest. Hubby just looked at me like I had lost my mind. I told him weed killer would be cheaper and better.

The grass and lawn will all be hard and crunchy soon enough anyway. I usually do the weed killer around the cellar because it's impossible to mow in tight places.

Ah, the joys of rural living. For some reason, the only crop we never pay attention to comes back year after year. We have onions growing by the car port. And we never water, weed, or fertilize them.

Yet every year they come up and flourish abundantly. I took some and chopped them with our scrambled eggs this morning. Yum!

Still haven't roto-tilled the garden area. Looks like another late garden year for us.

As wet as it has been it would be hard to till. Where do you live again? My mom lives out on Texanna road and she can finally till part of her garden. She has wonderful old Oklahoma garden dirt that can grow ANYTHING. Our ground is so compacted it don't even perk so I doubt it would grow much plus the people we bought from had old cars everywhere so the ground is probably ruined from gas and oil spills. Yesterday I planted my tomato's in 20 gallon tubs with Lowe's Garden Soil. I have 9 so I figure that is enough for my first year. Next year I am hoping to have 2x that many (if I buy tubs and soil all year long I should be able to do that. I am thinking about having hubby build me some raised beds like 4x8x2 or so. I will probably grow onions and a pepper or 2 if I do. Eggs and wild onions are WONDERFUL!!!!!!!

One thing I know about rural living is that it's time to pick poke before it's too late.
