Tahlequah ISPs, Colocation (and any morning runners?)
Hi all,
My wife accepted a teaching position at NSU and we are in the process of a house purchase a block from Greenwood Elementary. I am a systems engineer, so I spend a lot of time on the tubes :-)
I would love to find educated suggestions for the most stable residential broadband ISP in town - any experiences to share? A business class connection to the house may come later, or it may go into an office rental - not completely sure on that yet.
I stopped by the AT&T building downtown (the one with the tower..) to look for any contact information, and didn't really find much. The front door clearly states "Colocation Entrance" - anyone know a human that works there, if it's just telco colo gear, or if they provide server colocation - friends in low places?
My wife runs about 45-60 minutes almost every morning (she's an early riser) and wanted me to put out a note looking for running buddies - can you hang? ;-)
We'll be in Tahlequah full time, shortly before fall classes start - see 'ya soon!
Kind Regards,
Michael

She'll be teaching in the department of psychology and counseling - mostly grad students, but she might have an undergrad class.
Kind Regards,
Michael

Welcome to Tahlequah. I don't run or walk. Best place to find people that do is at the gyms.
Also don't know anything about the At&T bldg.
Now if she wants to meet people I would suggest Friends of the Library meetings and we have a lovely reading group at the library. I must say though, that most of the time I don't like what they are reading so just come to listen. If she loves to garden I would suggest the Garden Club. If she likes to eat out at many of our cruddy restaurants I would suggest the Red Hat Society. I quit because there are only 4or so good restaurants, and I didn't want to eat at some of the other ones they chose. I am sure she has enough to do as a professor though.

The best quality I've found is AT&T DSL. You can call AT&T (be patient) and get connected. You might try the AT&T store on south Muskogee by Walgreen's. It is staffed. The old building downtown has been active in a long time.

Thanks for the welcomes
I've used both ADSL and cable providers in other places. ADSL typically lags behind cable on speeds and uses PPPoE, where cable is usually DHCP, which is a little simpler from a networking prospective.
From digging around, is CableLynx the only cable provider in Tahlequah? They also don't say on their site if they will provide broadband service without buying cable tv, too..
Any opinions on TV providers? CableLynx, Dish Network, DirectTV?
Kind Regards,
Michael

I suggested to the Tahlequah twitter user that having a meetup might be fun - if you are interested (and I am eager to meet some of the fine folks from city-data, too), follow along the @Tahlequah twitter account, or just check their updates from time to time Tahlequah Oklahoma (Tahlequah) on Twitter
OnTopic:
We got moved in relatively painlessly mid-July, and have been having a great time exploring Tahlequah. Such a sweet town and nice people :-)
With regards to ISPs, my new next door neighbor confirmed the connectivity and support issues with CableLynx (and his subsequent move to AT&T with no complaints), so AT&T won out and we're happily chugging along.
As far as TV, the dish that was on the roof from the previous owners was DirectTV, and many of the neighbors have the same, so they got the call - the installer guy was very nice, was careful with the new HD dish install, did a neat job of additional cable runs thru the attic for HD, and I would be happy to recommend them for anyone looking for a TV provider.
I have not gone to knock on the AT&T building door (210 N. Muskogee) to ask about server colocation, yet, but I'll get around to that. It's not a retail storefront, but there were a couple AT&T vans parked in the back Sunday evening, so I assume this is where the local telco circuits terminate and the service call guys office from. Again, if you know someone that works for AT&T locally, I'd love to get in touch personally, instead of just calling an 800 number.
Warm regards,
Michael

mshuler: Enjoyed the info you provided. It sounds like you are liking Tahlequah. Your info on ISP answers some of my questions. Are you in school or did you relocate for work or maybe even retired? I'm looking to relocate there, hopefully, in the near future. I have to rid myself of house and burdens in SoCal first. At 69 yrs old it's going slow, but it is going. Any interesing things you find about Tahlequah keep us informed. The twitter site is great. I'm a novice on the pooter so any answers might require a new topic so I don't get busted by the "mean-Mods". Thanks again for your post.
