What I find interesting is Redbird's line "another I hate it here thread"...which tells me it is a common theme here. For those of you who questioned my age andexperience, I'm 48, have lived in Germany, all up and down the west coast, and the western states. I've been to Chicago, DC, Baltimore, Phili, Austin, so yes, I do have places to compare. I pick on "christian" because you oklahoman's reference it in everything--I'm a christian this, I'm a christian that....you actually have church info on your news!!! I used to be against stereotypes meant that after coming here....and seeing so many people fit a stereotype, that I cannot argue that stereotypes are wrong because they are certainly everywhere here--toothless, uneducated, redneck, etc.
To Synopsis--I have seen countless people, countless times leave garbage on the road, in stores (I saw a woman once leave her drink cup on a stack of shirts at Pennys at the mall), thrown out of moving cars, you name it people dump it here...it's disgusting. I've been here 4 years. I've seen people at my apartment complex attempt to throw a bag of garbage from their car to the dumpster--which then lands on the ground as they drive off. To be fair, I have friends in Georgia who say that it is dirtier there.....which I cannot imagine.
And yes, I have to "make" my students clean up the classroom because they do not know how to clean! At least me forcing the issue helps them (hopefully) be more conscious about dumping thier garbage all over.
No, I do not walk around with a scowl on my face. I am a very friendly person and enjoy talkign to people....normal people that is. My friends know how I feel about Okla, my students perhaps get it throughout the semester...I like to pick on your silly laws and such....point out the racism/classism/fundamentalism here.....

What I find interesting in reading everyone's replies to my post is you all turn around and question my attitude, where I'm from, etc....but do not look at my criticisms themselves. What does being christian have to do with tailgating at 80mph on the freeway? It's called being nice...being courteous to others...simple christian stuff like that does NOT exist here, yet religious lipservice is everywhere here. Religion is a major hypocrisy here in practice--people do not live what they preach. Many of your answers themselves are evidence of the attitude of people here....
Yeah, you are right, but we are still the friendliest State in the Nation.

There's never been a better time to start in life-
It ain't too early and it aint too late!
Starting as a farmer with a brand new wife-
Still be living in a brand-new state!
Brand new state-
gonna treat you great!
Gonna buy you barley, carrots and pertaters,
Pasture for the cattle, spinich and termaters,
Flowers on the prarie where the June bugs zoom,
Plen'y of air and plen'y of room,
Plen'y of room to swing a rope!
Plen'y of heart and plen'y of hope.

OOOOk-lahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain,
And the wavin' wheat can sure smell sweet, When the wind comes right behind the rainQ
OOOOk-lahoma, Ev'ry night my honey lamb and I, Sit alone and talk and watch a hawk makin' lazy circles in the sky.

We know we belong to the land (yo-ho)
And the land we belong to is grand!
And when we say
Yeeow! Aye-yip-aye-yo-ee-ay!
We're only sayin'
You're doin' fine, Oklahoma!
Oklahoma O.K.!

For a "bible belt" state, Oklahoman's are the rudest drivers I've ever seen. You would not know you were in a "christian" place the way people tailgate at 80mph.

Are there any nice Oklahoman's? I have seen very few. I came here to get a graduate degree at one of your major colleges...the school is filthy. I make my students clean the classrooms before we begin. No one smiles or says hi to you on campus, no one is friendly in the stores, very few people will talk to you. There is so much classism here it is embarrassing, yet people here LOVE the flag and America, but do not live it....ever.

I can't wait to leave here....I can understand why Oklahoma has the reputation it has. I use to be very much against stereotypes---until I came here. There is a reason why people think the way they do about Oklahoma...and it is because of the way people are here!
Be friendly! to everyone! Stop being Racist! Rich people are NOT better! (they are usually worse, selfish, nasty, arrogant) Brush your teeth! and they wont fall out! Pick up after yourselves! garbage is NOT cool! There is so much crime here it scares me! Cops do not believe in "service" here, just macho bullying (and I am from a Law Enforcement family...where I am from half the cops here would lose thier jobs). Stop trying to control people! Is that freedom??? Some of your laws here are so ridiculous that it is embarrassing.....no porno shops here, but Okla is in the top 10 for child molestation, is number one for animal cruelty, etc. Build some sidewalks!

I could go on for days about what is wrong here.....but to balance it...the good things about okla--the storms (totally awesome) and when it is green it is beautiful. That's about it.

What do you mean, YOU Oklahomans? hahahahah
Hey pal, don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split ya. I've lived in other states and here you are grouping ALL Oklahoman's into one thoughtless and clueless group. Try living in Barstow, California, where it is like the Meth Capital of the world.
Where exactly are you from and did you research this place before you moved here?

That person was off the wall on what he said. Barstow. Gosh, I didn't know if was the Meth Capital, but I stayed there once. Looks like they put down a few strip malls on the moon and called it home. What he said about trash is almost true because it is trashy in certain areas, but I have lived in worse in either Texas or California. Don't recall. But all I saw was Wallie Word bags all over the place.

As for traffic. I have never been in a more stress free driving environment, but of course I don't live in the city. There are some cities, outside of Oklahoma, where people are constanting honking at each other. Try living with that. Laredo, Texas comes to mind. No one hear every honks no matter how long you take to move. People are patient and considerate. I think the more outsiders that arrive the more problem drivers we will see, but it depends upon where they come from. But if you look on the negative side you will only see the bad in Oklahoma. Every State has it.
