What is it with you Oklahomans?
Why so much garbage? I have watched people finish a drink, set it on the ground, and walk away. OKC sets new rules for people putting signs up along the road, but no one cleans up the garbage? Okla is the dirtiest place I've ever lived.
For a "bible belt" state, Oklahoman's are the rudest drivers I've ever seen. You would not know you were in a "christian" place the way people tailgate at 80mph.
Are there any nice Oklahoman's? I have seen very few. I came here to get a graduate degree at one of your major colleges...the school is filthy. I make my students clean the classrooms before we begin. No one smiles or says hi to you on campus, no one is friendly in the stores, very few people will talk to you. There is so much classism here it is embarrassing, yet people here LOVE the flag and America, but do not live it....ever.
I can't wait to leave here....I can understand why Oklahoma has the reputation it has. I use to be very much against stereotypes---until I came here. There is a reason why people think the way they do about Oklahoma...and it is because of the way people are here!
Be friendly! to everyone! Stop being Racist! Rich people are NOT better! (they are usually worse, selfish, nasty, arrogant) Brush your teeth! and they wont fall out! Pick up after yourselves! garbage is NOT cool! There is so much crime here it scares me! Cops do not believe in "service" here, just macho bullying (and I am from a Law Enforcement family...where I am from half the cops here would lose thier jobs). Stop trying to control people! Is that freedom??? Some of your laws here are so ridiculous that it is embarrassing.....no porno shops here, but Okla is in the top 10 for child molestation, is number one for animal cruelty, etc. Build some sidewalks!
I could go on for days about what is wrong here.....but to balance it...the good things about okla--the storms (totally awesome) and when it is green it is beautiful. That's about it.

You would not know you were in a "christian" place the way people tailgate at 80mph. It's funny you say that because I've heard it said a million times that Oklahoma has the nicest drivers. Plus, what does being christian have to do with being a good driver I will agree on certain areas being clannish though, but again it's been said Oklahoma has some of the nicest people. Sounds to me like you are trying to find the negative in everything because I live in OKC and have not experienced many of your claims. My university is also very clean too.

I guess the OP has never driven in NYC or MA. I also think that perhaps the OP interacts with non-okies. I can always tell if I am speaking with an Okie or with somebody from "away", especially Yankees (some of my friends here are excepted ) ...... even Okies that live elsewhere are noticeable because of their pleasant disposition.

It's obvious you've never been to California, in fact, it sounds like Oklahoma is only the 2nd state you've ventured in, and a very small portion of it for that matter.
Your comparison must be with a fenced in townhouse villa.
Stay in school, you have years of learning ahead of you.
I can see that your afraid to mention what area of the country your comparing this small portion of Oklahoma with.

Well, that was a pretty irrational post. With that attitude, I bet you do give off a vibe that makes people want to steer clear of you. The reason you are probably getting tailgated is that you're driving in the wrong lane. Maybe you should hop over in the right lane and head north or south (you pick) on I-35 until you're happy.

I agree, we have a lot of trash on the highways and on the sides of the roads, but it isn't unique to Oklahoma. Not that it is an excuse, but I used to pack into the wilderness areas on New Mexico in the fall just to pack out garbage and trash that people would leave behind.....and that was in areas that you could only get to by foot or by horseback.....wheeled vehicles and motorized vehicles were illegal. Last time we went in, we had a 25 horse string and each horse had five large bags hung on it.

Not sure why this is an issue. First of all, Christians are simply people who believe in Jesus. It has nothing to do with how people drive or whether they smile or not. they ar simply people with the same feelings as any other group. Do me a favor though, explain to me how a Christian is supposed to drive at 80 mph.

Not around you...........we have an attitude here that says "I will be to you like you are to me" so if you are surly and cranky and ugly to people, they will be that way to you. As I LIKE being ignored and left alone, it works for me. Apparently you need to feel loved by everyone, which is fine, but you will have to start loving everyone first.

Considering most people here smile and talk to everyone, my guess is they just don't like you.

I'm fairly new to Oklahoma too, 'cept I have folks here and spent time here when I was a kid. I think all y'all need to think about what takes getting used to here for newbies. I think of all the good things I see here foremost, but ya gotta take some constructive criticism or you're being waaay too defensive. In my experience some(some that is) Oklahomans put on airs as a way of overcompensating.
And the police? I feel like I'm behind enemy lines here, it's like the cops prey on people here. There are so many where I live here that they will be arresting each other soon at the rate they are going. And they do have nasty dispositions to boot, are they taking steroids to have such a them-against-us attitude? I'm just a workin' man with no bad habits and I feel like everytime I leave home some cop is going to jump me for for jaywalking or such.
Ain't no free to it here, I'll be leaving in a few years after I finish looking after my mother. I'll take a lot of good memories of the people and places here, but I'll breathe a sigh of relief when I'm out. Many folk here are arming themselves on their own compounds in Oklahoma. It's gonna be a real mess hit the fan someday. These are all criticisms I could make about many places in the USA tho, so I'm not pickin' on Oklahoma.
Dudes, - chill out and do something about the bad cops and sherrifs here and you'll have something.

Cool. Another "I hate it here! I can't wait to leave!!" thread!
And he takes aim at christians because of rude drivers he has encountered!?!! Rush Limbaugh, take notes, you are getting schooled here.
Pray tell, O Tidy One, what reputation DOES Oklahoma have? As far as reps go, the old adage applies here ONCE AGAIN.... a person's perceptions are colored more by what's behind their eyes, than what is in front of them. You sound like you need a hug, a trash bag, and a stick with a nail in it.
You USED to be against stereotypes?... Does that mean you are now a proud patch wearing believer in stereotypes? My god. Please tell us what college you are at and what your major is, so we can send a purple sash bearing "I Hate It Here" for you to wear with PRIDE.
Let's get this story straight, you saw someone (an undergrad perhaps?) leave their empty container after drinking it, then walk away, so you quickly deduce the poignant thing to do is sign on to CDF, and ask, "What is with YOU OKLAHOMAN'S?" Like every person is now a trashy person? LOL! Get real!
You DO realize there are rude drivers are in every state, right? Or is that a thesis that you haven't read yet. IT'S COMMON SENSE!
OMG, he's carrying a slew of stereotypes in his bookbag! Someone get a PhD! He needs a scholarly consoling voice by a man with bushy eyebrows and a kindly voice with a tweed jacket with elbow patches! (that's a stereotype to add to your collection)
A graduate student no less! LOL! What is your degree in?
