Guthrie is beautiful, especially in December with all of the Christmas lights. Bigfoot resides in the Eastern part of the state.

I second that. The aquarium in Jenks is cool. Tulsa also has two neat museums and I only got to see one of them, but some day.....
I've never been there, but you may want to check out some places in OKC, too. Bricktown looks like it'd be neat and so does Myriad Gardens.
Just a few suggestions since I don't know what area you will be in.
Oh, and don't forget Grove. It's a cute little town by Grand Lake.
If you made Tulsa your home base, you'd be able to do all of the above.

One of the "Must see places in Oklahoma" is the Talimena Scenic Drive located in Leflore County, SE Oklahoma. The entrance is 7 miles from Talihina.

The old Choctaw Nation Council house is located near Tuskahoma, about 8 miles from Talihina. It has a museum and examples of some early dwellings, etc. There is a huge Labor Day Festival with "big name" entertainment.

The Ouachita National Forest covers 1.8 million acres in central Arkansas and southeastern Oklahoma and is located within spitting distance of Talihina.

Several Lakes are in the area around Talihina. 14,360 surface acres Sardis Lake, Cedar Lake, located in the mountains, has excellent RV camp sites and equestrian facilities.
The Robert S. Kerr mansion is worth a visit. Located near Poteau, it is now a conference center and museum. President's Kennedy, Johnson and many others have spent time here.

Year around trout fishing with some excellent catch and release trophy areas, with hefty German Brown's can be found at Beaver's Bend State Park. The park is located an easy hours drive south of Talihina through some spectacular mountain scenary.
Beavers Bend Resort Park
And, there is Bigfoot! Numerous sightings of the beast have been made around the Honobia and Nashobia areas just south of Talihina! See the Honobia Bigfoot Festival.

There are hundreds of miles of horse trails, hiking trails, and back country roads through the national forest areas here in the SE part of the state. Hunting and fishing opportunities are plentiful. Leflore and McCurtain county have a lot for the visitor to see and do.
By the way, if driving the Talimena Drive or the back roads around the national forest area, keep your eye out for Black bear and deer. A few motorcyclist have had accidents related to the sudden appearance of a black bear on the roadway!

No, that's not true at all.
You have to worry about snakes, Bigfoot, scorpions, hornets, wasps, bees, biting flies, mosquitoes, chiggers, hellgrammites, ticks, centipedes, millipedes that secrete a compound containing cyanide, tarantulas, brown recluses, black widows, copperheads, cottonmouths, seven different species of rattlesnakes, poison oak, poison ivy, poison sumac, plus 30 other lethal plants deadly to humans, countless fatal mushrooms, bears, alligators, bobcats, coyotes, mountain lions, gar, eels, slugs, leeches, and many more that I won't mention.
But the most dangerous thing we have way too much of in Oklahoma is OUT-OF-STATERS!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! "Hand me the shotgun, granny. There's out-of-staters on the loose"!

Your fourth grader may enjoy the Tulsa Air and Space Museum in Tulsa. It's not a typical museum it is hands on and adults like it too. And no trip is complete without visiting the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum. It is our duty in Oklahoma to encourage people to visit and remember. It touches everyone.

A must see when your in Oklahoma. Its a beautiful fantastic design and also has a great museum.
Since your in OKC check out Bricktown, Midtown, The Paseo, Western Ave., Auto Alley, OKC museum of Art, Myriad Gardens, then have some of the best Pho in the region located in the Asian District. Visit the OKC Zoo/Science Museum Oklahoma, Remington Park for some great horse racing and then top it off at one of Oklahomas best restaurants called Red Prime. Maybe catch a NBA game at the Ford Center. Lots to do in OKC.
