Retiring somewhere... Ok?
My husband just called from bear hunting in WA to tell me to search properties in Oklahoma around Tulsa area. He said he'd fill me in on details later. We were looking at TX (hill country).
Tell me about OK. We want some acreage, possibly hunting property. I'd love an older house/farm for horses, etc.
We're active, my husband likes to hunt, kids are grown so schools aren't really an issue. I'd like to be near amenities, but would love a smaller town.
We have a fishing boat too.
We'd be retired so jobs aren't an issue. I love green, trees and hills.
Where should we look?

I would suggest the eastern part of the state, either in the Southeast where you have the Ouachita mountains or the northeast near the Ozarks. Tahlequah might be just the fit for you. It's a small city, but has a university (NE Ok State U). You could probably find some land in or around Tahlequah.

The only thing I can say about retiring here is that we don't have any good doctors in Tahlequah, everyone complains. You have to go to OKC or Tulsa when you really need good care.

I'd look at Skiatook. Land can be had relatively inexpensively and you are close to Skiatook Lake, one of Oklahoma's newer reservoirs. The town has all basic amenities and you are a short 20-30 minute drive to anything you want in Tulsa. It is in Osage County which is also the Osage Nation Indian Reservation. The county seat (Pawhuska) is a pretty town as well.

You may want to check the northeastern corner of OK out. It's a very nice area and Grand Lake is there, too if you like fishing/boating. You're not too far from Tulsa either.
