It's interesting how often people on here like to bring up Oklahoma towns that are remote and/or are fading away. But then I guess that's just what there are requests for info on them.

re.texola
well stillwatertownie, you post wasnt very informative, but to try and answer your question i think most people are looking for a slower pace to get away from all the crime and drugs, and to try to go back to a simpler time like maybe there parents had or grandparents might had and ofcourse a more affordable price of living.me on the other hand want all those things but mainly i am tired of people in general.i am 44 years old on disability and trust me its not much to live on,ive had more bad expeirences than good with most people, dont get me wrong theirs alot of good people out there and ive met some but not to many.aleast thats been my expeirence.and i just want to find a small nice place to live out the rest of my days in peace

mikey, all I can do is google Texola.
Google
It's apparently in FAR Western Oklahoma near the Texas Panhandle. Apparently the largest city of any size would be Elk City, which is 40 miles away.
It's likely that you won't get a lot of responses to Texola because it's so remote and small. It's not very likely that you'll find anyone on here that knows much about it. I suggest you drive up and check it out.

Texola is almost a ghost town yes, but it is right on I-40. There are probably 30 houses in the town. Many are in disrepair. There is a convienance store there. Erick Oklahoma is about 7 miles east and has a couple of eating places and local groceries.
Shamrock Texas and Sayre Oklahoma area a little bit bigger and have a little more. They are about 15-20 miles away. Elk City, Ok has most everything you need and it's about 30 miles east.
Amarillo has a lot of your bigger city amenities and it's about an hour and a half west. Oklahoma City is about 2 hours and 15 minutes east.
I think any kids in Texola would go to Erick schools. You can take HWY 66 over to Erick. It is nice and wide and has hardly any traffic since it parallels the interstate about a mile away.
Erick seems like a nice enough small town.

Thanks for helping this poster out Eddie. Sometimes I feel like moving to a very remote area as well.

Sorry, to learn of your situation. Winters in the Oklahoma panhandle can get pretty cold at times, well below zero, sometimes with deep snow storms. I think a better deal would be one of those charming tiny towns in Pawnee county, such as Maramec and Skeedee. Both towns only have around 100 people and are situated along a county road, rather that a state or federal highway, which helps them seem more isolated than other towns. I've only driven through Maramec. Its block long downtown looks like a ghost town except for the volunteer fire department, which looks fairly recently built. Probably the nearest drive for groceries would be Cleveland or Pawnee, about 10 or 15 miles away.

According to City Data there are 26 men and 25 women living in Texola.
http://www.city-data.com/city/Texola-Oklahoma.html
I would think finding a rental would be difficult, and it would be cheaper to buy something than to rent.
BTW, Stillwatertownie.......Texola is on I-40, not in the panhandle.
