Texan moving to OK
Hello...
My family and I (sibling and parents) will be moving to Muldrow (or Roland), OK in Sept. assuming the buyers don't back out and we close when we're suppose to. I'm not happy with the move but I'll cope.
Anyway, I'm having a hard time finding a rental home in the Muldrow and Roland area, just any town that's very close to there. Not in Arkansas though, for some reason by dad doesn't want to find a home just across the border. We're looking for a 3 bed/2 or 3 bath to rent because my dad currently has a house being built. I've tried searching and I always seem to pull up the same homes all of which are priced at $800/month, something my dad wasn't pleased about. It's not much if we were renting to own but we're just renting until the new house gets finished.
Any suggestions?

Call Jimmie Lou Whitekiller in Salisaw. Not sure about her number, but she is listed and she knows the area really well.

Hi Liberty, Muldrow is my hometown although i now reside in Houston. Your dad is probably wanting to stay in OK because of the tax situation. AR residents must pay taxes on their personal property. You can get all the benefits of Ft. Smith without actually having to live in AR. Fort Smith at first glance looks dull, but you can actually find a few fun things to do there.
Which area of TX are you relocating from BTW? Anyway, if you need any information about Muldrow, just yell. Would there be a possibility of living somewhere close to Muldrow/Roland until the house is finished? Sallisaw should have a bigger market for rentals, but you could live in Ft. Smith only temporarily yeah?

Thanks Goodpasture.
HoustonSooner: I see. Good to know. Well, we use to live in Fort Smith but that was back when I was around 7 and we lived there for only a few years. Other than that I've been in Texas all my life (just about every part except the west). We're moving from Austin (I sense a Longhorn joke coming ). I lived in Houston for three years before I moved back home about six months ago.
As for living in Ft. Smith, my dad really wants to stay in OK because our property is in Muldrow and it's just easier for him if he doesn't have to travel far to work on the house. He also doesn't seem to like Ft. Smith as much, something about size and population. He prefers small towns. My dad's building the house himself and commute time is important to him I guess. Honestly, I don't think a 15-20 min. drive is long but it's what he wants. I think he'll be fine with Sallisaw though since it's still in OK.
I'm not too worried about finding things to do to entertain myself. I'm a reader. I'm also a fan of the outdoors and from my trips to OK, looks like there's a lot of wilderness to explore.

Goodpasture is right. She should be able to help you.
$800/month is probably average for a decent home of that size around here. In Sallisaw you get what you pay for. Look and take a second look before you rent anything. I like it here but I live in the country. If you rent in town pay that extra dollar for a nice place.
Good luck liberty! I hope you like it around here!

Well Liberty, it sounds like your Dad knows exactly what he wants. Every time i fly back to that part of the world it gets harder and harder to leave. If you love the outdoors you are in a great spot, definitely make a trip up to Tahlequah and get on the Illinois River for a float trip and fishing. Just don't flash too many hook 'ems while your out there I saw a couple of longhorns out there a few weeks ago getting bombed with a water balloon canon! I guess maybe the same would happen to me down here on the Guadalupe if i kicked up a Boomer Sooner!

Well, looks like my dad's okay with living in Ft. Smith if Muldrow isn't an option. My dad doesn't mind an older house because we won't be living in it long. All the house I've seen listed look like new homes. By my dad's estimation we should only be there for about six months and then the house should be done. Still...after reading the city stats for Ft. Smith and Austin and comparing the two, I'd much rather stay on the OK side.
If the Illinois river is anything like the Guadalupe I'll definitely check it out. LOL @ the Longhorn thing. I may be an Austinite but I wouldn't actually consider myself a Longhorn. I'm not a sports person. I fell asleep at the only football game I ever attended.
