my husband is from Enid OK, he actually lived with me for a while in Belgium last year and it seemed only fair i would spend some time here getting to know where he comes from.

we are planning our return to Belgium in april though... not really sure for how long but most likely for a pretty long time.
when we leave here i will have been here a year and a couple of months

im so excited to go back, i miss my family and friends tons

where are you from and why the move to Belgium?

@ peggy: yeah it is amazing that its that old. the last ten years we have made a HUGE effort to clean up our historical buildings. they were getting pretty black almost, but now they look gorgeous and white. it was a very long tedious process though. but the results are worth it

Oh I have been to Leuven and it is beautiful!! I went several years ago when I was in college with a group of friends. We stayed mostly in Antwerp but spent one day in Leuven. We walked around the town center and shopped, I have to say Zara was my favorite store! We were also lucky enough to meet and talk with some other students for several hours. They were incredibly nice and it was fun to have a sort of cultural exchange with them. Anyway, I just had to let you know BelgianPea how much I enjoyed your hometown.

And south of Hominy.

Out of curiosity I googled Cleveland and looked at it on the map. Now, that is my idea of a tornado proof location in that bend of the river. Has there ever been a tornado go through Cleveland? I would like to prove or disprove that theory once and for all.

you're wrong there, the majority of Belgians speak Dutch We also call it Flemish (because our accents are different from the Dutchies, but it is in fact Dutch)

Technically you are correct in that Flemish is a dialect of Dutch. However, there are so many significant differences in the usage that I would not call Flemish Dutch or vice versa.
