Mercury Marine moving everything to Stillwater - maybe
Clembone's Blog
Good possibility of Mercury Marine moving their entire facility to Stillwater, too bad for the workers in Wisconsin though. Seven years of salary freeze would be hard to vote yes to IMHO.

It's been confirmed. As a result of the union vote today in Fond du Lac, WI, Mercury Marine will be moving most of it's manufacturing operations to Stillwater for the next 2 to 3 years. The number of jobs may be as many as 900. The number of jobs will go a long way to restore jobs at the Stillwater plant back to peak levels from the past. It remains to be decided if the remaining jobs, the non manufacturing ones, will also move to Stillwater.

However, I must add this about Mercuy moving it's hq from part of an article found:
"Mercury, which has a workforce of 1,900 employees in Fond du Lac, also said it would be unlikely to keep its world headquarters in Fond du Lac if the manufacturing goes to Stillwater, where the company has operated a factory for 30 years. Mercury will probably want to have its headquarters where the manufacturing is based, President Mark Schwabero said in an afternoon news conference at the Holiday Inn." (from: http://www.marketplacemagazine.com/b...tch-for-conces )
So if things really go super well, economically speaking, in coming years for Mercury in Stillwater, its number of jobs might rival the number of full time jobs at OSU.

More jobs is always good news. For us, anyway.

They may not be in Stillwater long either. Apparently they have a plant they recently opened in China that is currently building the smaller outboards. Logic would say only a matter of time before all motors, outboards and inboards will be made there. No different then all other manufacturing in this country with its mass exodus beyond our borders!

Uh, I think the latest news said that the CEO is trying to negotiate with the Unions again. We may be a little premature on all this.

It's looking final. The union can't vote again if there are no changes in the contract and Mercury isn't interested in making any. Story here: Stillwater NewsPress - NEW: Merc union can't revote

And it is final for sure. The next big thing, and it may be decided soon, is will Mercury also move it hq and up to 1000 employees to Stillwater? That would be some thick icing on the cake. However, Fond du Lac is wanting to keep Mercury hq so bad that its County Board of Supervisors wants to get a county sales tax started soon to provide the basis for an incentive plan to entice Mercury to keep its hq there. I don't know if Oklahoma and Stillwater have a plan, or not, to counter that. But please, city and county taxes here are already high enough.
