Hawaii won. What is up with that?

I got arrested in 1986 for smuggling books into Kentucky. The charges were dropped as nobody else in the courtroom had ever seen a book.

Thanks!

In 1986, I was tranferred to Lexington, KY for a year. At that time, the literacy rate for the state was 89 percent. Anyway, I had a high school graduate of Henry Clay HS in Lexington apply that could not read or write. I encountered other individuals of the same reading/writing caliber during the year I was there. I am certain they have done much to improve the situation. I suspect the rural areas were worse, but I have no proof of that.

It is normal practice around here to start teaching kids to read at 3 and 4 years old. I am amazed at the kids that come in my school that know their numbers and letters. The girls who work for me finally realized that spelling words so that the kids don't know what their saying doesn't necessarily work anymore.......LOL! I tried to warn 'em!
