Hi- cali is nothing like oklahoma obviously. But if there had to be a comparison, then you would have to take OKC and combine Tulsa into one package! Tulsa has the beauty and OKC has the entertainment. Both are only 90 mins away from eachother. I know both will have a light rail system in 4-5 years and amtrack will finally connect to Tulsa soon from OKC(yes!). Slower pace would describe Tulsa- just because it is laid back. OKC is growing fast so it is more upbeat and more on the liberal side. OKC is more cosmo. Tulsa is more family oriented. I hope this helped...

Hey there...I am also from California, and lived in Tulsa from 1993-1999. In general I have to say that OKC is more liberal than Tulsa. However, I am a liberal Democrat and did just fine in T-Town!
To me, looks are everything. I can deal with a church on every other corner as long as I live in a pretty area. To me, OKC seemed like a big cow town compared to Tulsa. Others will disagree, and I'll admit the cosmo parts of OKC did seem more "big city" than Tulsa in general. But OKC is wayyyyy spread out, and to me Tulsa has more of a "city feel" than OKC, in that it's more compact. As long as you live in Tulsa's "Midtown" area, you should be just fine. This would generally be described as south of downtown to about 41st, from the riverfront over to somewhere between Harvard and Yale. To be more specific, look along Peoria from 15th on down. This area is known for skewing younger and more liberal. It also has all the personality that south Tulsa and the burbs don't have.
Good luck in Okie-Dokie land! I personally loved it there and still have friends and family who live there and still love it. Prepair yourselves for some hot summers though...the humidity will shock you, being from Cali!

Someone once said that when OkC grows up, it wants to be like Dallas and when Tulsa grows up, it wants to be like Boston. Both Dallas and Boston are fine cities, so there's nothing wrong with wanting to be like either.

As far as political demographics go, OkC probably is a little more liberal than Tulsa because it's a larger city. However, Tulsa's look and feel (for lack of a better word) is more "east coast/new england-ish" than that of OkC.

That's just my opinion, but I think it's reinforced in the geography and architecture of the city, as well as the geographical size; Tulsa is smaller in area than OkC and is more dense.

Talking Boston Ruffnecks

So, the East coast Dame is taking the young debutante, in the sticks, out for a cup of tea. Cute.

Synopsis- You might as well compare tulsa to Shanghai. It does have the most art deco in the world ya know! Your silly!

jeffcantdance- Sticks and stones may break my bones but "COW TOWN" remarks will never hurt me.- Oklahoma City.
How could you make a judgement on a town you havent seen for 10 years?

svelte- Im sure you could/would find a great place to live here in Oklahoma. I would try to google information about the state/cities and then make a visit. That is really the determining factor. All of Oklahoma, like its BIG BROTHER Dallas/Texas have many similarities. . good luck to you.

Actually, I just saw OKC last year, visiting friends in Tulsa. I just haven't lived in the area since 1999. No offence meant, just giving my honest perception of the town. And my honest perception is OKC=Cow town. I'm not saying it doesn't have upscale areas, and in fact I said either in this post or another that the upscale areas OKC does have actually feel a bit more "big city" than Tulsa. But it seemed to me that feeling would extend over a few blocks, then there would be huge pastures of nothing, then more city...then nothing, then a subdivision! That being said, in my humble opinion Tulsa just has/had more of an overall cosmopolitan feel than OKC. It's more compact and has more of a city feel than OKC.
You obviously disagree! No offence meant!
P.S. LOL @ jeffcantdance

Angry Time to stop the nonsense.

Synopsis- I tend to wonder if you have a POSSE designed for this forum, along with multiple aliases. It's becoming very evident via the observation of the time in and time out by the comments of your counterparts, designed to regulate opinions. But, that's just My 2 Cents. But if anyone were to look at my PMs, from you, they could tell the whole story. I would never want to do this, but...I will post my PMs from you, unless you can stop.

To even slightly compare tulsa to Boston is ridiculous. Did the mayflower land on the shores of a lake in the middle of AMERICA? I didnt realize Plymouth Rock could be associated with tulsa- have you ever tried to touch it? I have. Very silly!! YOU ARE DOING AN INJUSTICE TO ALL AMERICANS WITH YOUR POMPOUS PROPOSAL. PERIOD.

Your statistics are becoming boring and are designed to cause arguements. Now go away and take your childish banter with you- OR LIKE YOU HAVE RUDELY SAID TO ME. GETTT OFFF. Like I can't decifer your backhanded compliments. DONT TAKE ME FOR A FOOL!

I propose a TRUCE so we can continue the purpose of city data and be on with our secret forum lives. Negativity is not on my agenda. It causes stress and anxiety. I read past comments by you and you seem to be a good person.

Although I have done this recently...to calm the drama.

I APOLIGIZE for any rude comments and I SINCERELY MEAN THAT. They were for defensive measures. I can only hope you can do the same.

Oh ya- tulsa should=Tulsa just like the nation knows OkC should=OKC. I have never seen or heard of OkC which implies its just an OK city. You know this VERY well. Shame on you. I usually always spell Tulsa like Tulsa. But since I saw the obvious, negative emphasis of the spelling by you, of my town. I decided to switch it up- if you know what I mean.

justcantdance- As for you my well timed friend. I thank you for the compliment for the humor. It was made to be that way, so I am truly happy you found it funny. The whole post was designed to be funny!

I will say this- I do not believe anyone that has lived for a short period of time or did a long/short visit to OKC or heard it through the grapevine bull; can do it justice(it is that BIG).

You are very right- Tulsa is more condensed. Unfortunately for the long run it could be its demise. OKC swathed large amounts of land purposefully for future possibilities. This allows for a LARGER CITY akin to Houston than Dallas- so if you want to look into your crystal ball- tulsa will be like Big D and OKC will be like Houston- I at least speak the truth on both sides(two sides to every story guys). You are way out of line with your opinion of MY so-called COW TOWN(sticks and stones). I actually love the idea, because we do not inflate OUR IMAGE and really have a cow town district CALLED Stockyard City. That we embrace, because we are a western town. Your opinion is your opinion/although I find it to be untrue in many ways. But anyone that does not live here KNOWS VERY LITTLE.

Neither of you even live in Oklahoma!?!

I am DONE with this thread. It has gotten out of hand. New posts will certainly not be responded by me. Looking forward to actual reliable, INTERESTING information/Conversation in future threads. I hope they will not be so biased. Considering that the Tulsa forum is TWICE the size, so obviously I am out numbered to begin with. But I could care less. Thank You
